Background / History
Formation and early operations
The Salvation Army began as the force formed by elite Real Doomsday Game players. Its earliest documented expedition deployed nearly 30,000 personnel—nearly 10,000 players supported by roughly 20,000 recruited NPC soldiers—to destroy nuclear-strike servers in the apocalypse scenario. 101
The players organized themselves into a corps of ten brigades, each numbering roughly one thousand players. Nick, known in-game as “F,” commanded the Sixth Brigade. 101 During the Yellowstone operation, the Salvation Army destroyed the Science Tribe and its nuclear-strike server by triggering a localized eruption of the Yellowstone Supervolcano. 101
The force later assaulted Cheyenne Mountain under its Legion Commander, using RPG fire, snipers, and a combined player-NPC charge to breach the base. 103
Grey Tide Apocalypse counterpart
In the Grey Tide Apocalypse, a parallel Salvation Army resisted Arthur Sheldon’s world-transforming Grey Tide after its commander failed to appear. Its members became a backbone of resistance, repeatedly fighting despite the collapse of the human coalition army. 154
Many soldiers entered hibernation pods to survive and awaken for later battles. Over time, tens of thousands were lost to the Grey Tide; only a little more than one hundred soldiers ultimately reached the highest level of the giant structure. 154
When Shen Feng revealed himself as a parallel version of their commander, the surviving soldiers accepted his leadership. They received nano armor and the ability to command nearby nanomachine swarms as extensions of themselves. 154 After the Grey Tide was reversed and Earth’s surface restored, Shen Feng entrusted the world to the Salvation Army, declaring that they no longer needed a savior because they were their own saviors. 158
Expansion in the real world
After Real Doomsday Game revived, Shen Feng authorized Salvation Army veterans to recommend and recruit new players according to their game performance and contribution scores. Candidates with anti-human tendencies or insufficient mission value could bring punishment upon both themselves and their recruiters. 210 213
The organization initially remained hidden: most members did not know one another’s real identities, while their positions across politics, medicine, intelligence, science, and other fields allowed them to influence global events without exposing the Army itself. 213
By the Resident Evil Apocalypse Mission, the Salvation Army had grown to roughly 50,000 soldiers worldwide. Its temporary base, including rescued survivor NPCs, held an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 people. 301 Its later membership exceeded 100,000, making secrecy increasingly difficult and enabling infiltration by the Purification Society. 520
Water World legacy
In the Water World Apocalypse, the Salvation Army emerged from secrecy after repeatedly fighting World Beasts and discovering Beastium, also called Beast Gold. The element enabled controllable nuclear fusion and made the Army central to humanity’s surviving industrial and military strength. 354
Internal disagreement over Beast Gold produced major factions:
- Separation Faction — advocated constructing fusion-powered generation ships to evacuate humanity into space. 354
- Resistance Faction — opposed abandoning Earth and favored continued resistance against the World Beasts. 354
- Advance Faction — identified in later epic accounts as another major internal current. 354
As rising seas destroyed civilization, the Salvation Army shifted from fighting World Beasts to building floating shelters and moving survivors toward mountains and plateaus. 356 The three known surviving soldiers—Li Tongchen, Nick, and Vasily—later became the first bards, preserving scientific and cultural knowledge for future generations. 356

Beliefs and Legacy
The Salvation Army’s defining conviction is that human civilization must resist extinction rather than submit to destructive powers. In the Grey Tide Apocalypse, faith in the absent Savior sustained soldiers through repeated deaths, hibernation, and decades of defeat. 154
Its Water World successors reframed the Savior’s teaching into a collective ideal: preserving civilization makes every person both a Savior and a member of the Salvation Army. 356 416
By the New Era, the organization’s existence was publicly acknowledged. Abu Kamal City became its public headquarters and a symbolic holy city for supporters preparing humanity’s counteroffensive against threats in the darkness. 569
