Background and History

Han Fei studied under Xun Zi before returning to Xinzheng. His scholarship had earned him a reputation beyond Han Kingdom, but his return also drew the attention of court factions uncertain of his political intentions. His father, King An of Han, was reluctant to see him and later found Han Fei's direct confrontation with Ji Wuye disruptive to the stability he wanted 535 666.

On the road to Xinzheng, Han Fei met Ye Qingcang at a tavern. Rather than recoil from Ye's unusual powers, he invited him home; the two then traveled together. Han Fei declined Ye's offer of free high-yield crops, reasoning that Han Kingdom was not yet in a position to put them to lasting use 526 527 530.

In Xinzheng, Han Fei became Minister of Justice. The appointment gave him an official voice but also made him a target of Ji Wuye. As Quicksand's founder and central figure, Han Fei worked with allies including Ye Qingcang, Zi Nu, Wei Zhuang, and Zhang Liang to challenge Night Curtain's influence 549 550 551 657.

Appearance

Han Fei is a young man often seen in splendid purple robes. His bearing can appear frivolous despite his royal status 526 657.

Personality

Han Fei is sociable, candid, and willing to joke even when discussing serious matters. He favors treating people sincerely and shows respect to capable allies regardless of rank. His courtesy does not prevent him from using deception or pressure in political struggles; he is prepared to use such methods against Night Curtain without abandoning his aims 527 548 663 665.

His concern extends beyond immediate acts of kindness. When he gives food to two children in a poor village, he understands that helping them alone cannot address the suffering of every child in Han Kingdom. He is similarly protective of his younger sister Red Lotus and supports her relationship with Ye Qingcang so long as she is happy and treated well 528 530 702.
