Overview

A God Trial Taker is a mortal selected to undertake a God’s trials and potentially inherit or attain godhood. Selection grants a divine mark—typically manifested on the forehead—and subtly transforms the bearer’s body, allowing them to refine or convert Soul Power into Divine Power. 42 362

God Trial Takers are not necessarily guaranteed successors. In the Human Realm, “God Trial Taker” and “successor” are treated as equivalent terms; in the God Realm, however, a Trial Taker may merely be a consumable candidate, while a successor is someone regarded as highly likely to complete the trials. 317

Selection and Status

Becoming a God Trial Taker

A God may select a mortal directly through divine light or divine thought. The selected person receives a God Trial and is marked by the sponsoring deity. 71 341 391

Relationship with the Sponsoring God

Gods possess considerable discretion in setting trial difficulty, but rewards must correspond to difficulty. The Five Great God Kings can compel a God to provide an appropriate reward if the deity violates these rules. 317

Divine Power

Upon accepting a trial, a Trial Taker’s body undergoes an initial sublimation that permits Divine Power refinement or Soul Power conversion. Their incomplete body generally limits how much Divine Power they can output. 362

Activating the divine mark allows all previously converted Divine Power to be used passively. A Spirit Skill powered in this manner is stated to receive at least a tenfold increase in effect. 362

• Ling Luochen, at level 59, had converted roughly nine percent of her Soul Power into Divine Power. 362

The killer automatically inherits the victim’s Trial Taker identity and receives a mission to kill further Trial Takers for increasing strength, rank, and even a higher eventual divine level. 599
