Background / History
Early conflict with Ye Qingcang
Tang San is the son of Tang Hao, the renowned Clear Sky Douluo. Tang Hao is revealed to have identified Xiao Wu as a 100,000-year transformed Soul Beast and intended her to become Tang San's Ninth Soul Ring and Soul Bone. 8
When Xiao Wu is seized at Blue Tyrant Academy, Tang San openly confronts the Crown Prince's party and directs lasting hatred toward Ye Qingcang. 8 He initially presents himself as someone who rose through personal effort rather than his father's reputation, while privately deciding that Ye Qingcang deserves death. 10
His hostility escalates into a direct clash with Ye Qingcang. Tang San's Spirit is shattered, but he survives through the Mysterious Heaven Skill. 22 Ye Qingcang later publicly identifies that cultivation method, exposing a secret Tang San had kept concealed. 43
Break with Xiao Wu
Tang San's relationship with Xiao Wu deteriorates amid jealousy, suspicion, and the revelation surrounding her status as a Soul Beast. 39 55 When he attempts to physically stop her during an argument, Xiao Wu recoils in fear and declares that their former friendship is all that remains. 55
Clear Sky Sect
After learning that history has changed and that powerful factions may target him, Tang Hao takes Tang San and Yu Xiaogang to the Clear Sky Sect for protection. 122 Tang San distrusts the sect elders but is accepted because the sect regards his potential future godhood as a strategic asset. 122 124
He is formally appointed Young Sect Master, while Tang Hao is permitted to return only after returning an Inheritance Soul Bone and accepting redemption through service. 124 125 Tang San volunteers to accompany Tang Hao in an attempt to reunite the Four Single-Attribute Clans with the Clear Sky Sect. 126
Contest for godhood
Tang San becomes convinced that Ye Qingcang has stolen the godhood that should have belonged to him. 123 132 Ye Qingcang rejects this claim, arguing that a history book from another world cannot determine who receives a divine position in the present world. 132
Tang San fails to persuade the Clear Sky Sect elders to oppose Tang Chen and Ye Qingcang. He instead invokes blood ties, rejects obedience to his ancestors, and declares that he will surpass Tang Chen by becoming a deity. 218
Poseidon Island and death
Tang San arrives at Poseidon Island, where Bo Saixi summons him for a divine trial and promises to entrust Poseidon's divine artifact to him afterward. 210 214 He is later rebuked by Tang Chen for placing personal interests above the Clear Sky Sect and for making unsupported accusations. 216
When the conflict turns against him, Tang Hao sacrifices himself to create an opening for Tang San's escape. 221 Tang San uses a Flying Soul Tool, but Ye Qingcang remotely destroys it; despite support from sea Soul Beasts, Tang San is killed when Ye Qingcang's attack pierces his head and forcibly takes the Poseidon Trident. 221 222
Personality
Tang San is proud, intensely possessive, and deeply driven by perceived slights. His belief that Ye Qingcang has taken what belongs to him persists even when the supposed entitlement is challenged. 123 132
He can restrain his outward emotions when political authority is at stake. As Young Sect Master, he questions Yu Xiaogang calmly about a failed mission because he recognizes that gaining merit is necessary to strengthen his position within the Clear Sky Sect. 207
However, his restraint breaks down in matters involving Xiao Wu and Ye Qingcang. His jealousy pushes him into irrational behavior toward Xiao Wu, while his hatred of Ye Qingcang repeatedly leaves him reactive and unable to gain the upper hand in debate or strategy. 55 132 133
Despite these flaws, Tang San is not regarded as incapable. Later assessments distinguish his questionable character from his genuine ability. 274
