Background / History
Tang San grew up in Saint Soul Village alongside Yun Tian. Before their martial-soul awakening, he treated Yun Tian with open contempt, refusing to teach him cultivation and dismissing him as an orphan destined to farm. 1
He awakened Blue Silver Grass and innately full soul power, while concealing the Clear Sky Hammer in his clenched hand. His reaction to Yun Tian awakening the Sky-Piercing Spear and the same innate soul-power level was immediate jealousy and hostility. 1
At Notting Academy, Yu Xiaogang identified Tang San as a probable twin martial-soul wielder after reading his Spirit Hall certificate. Tang San became Xiaogang's disciple and agreed to persuade Yun Tian to do the same, partly believing Yun Tian should eventually follow behind him. 3
Yun Tian later deleted Tang San's Plane Destiny tag. The loss caused Tang San's Mysterious Heaven Skill to backfire, made him collapse coughing blood, and changed his former destiny-favored status into that of someone “condemned by the heavens.” His linked traits shifted toward rage, arrogance, and hostility toward his own master. 4 6
Tang San's first soul-ring hunt became a disaster when a Mandala Snake bit him as he tried to finish it off. After recovering, he obeyed Yu Xiaogang's recommendation to seek a ten-year Solitary Bamboo; he ultimately received a white first soul ring and came to resent Xiaogang for the weak result. 9 10 14
After being accused of harassing Xiao Wu while she cultivated, Tang San left Notting Academy with Yu Xiaogang without receiving a graduation certificate. The pair departed for Shrek Academy, where Tang San continued to pursue cultivation and seek recognition. 19 20
Following Shrek's collapse and relocation to Blue Tyrant Academy, Tang San broke through to level 30 and was taken away by Tang Hao for a year of personal training. Tang Hao taught him Clear Sky Sect techniques, while Tang San's Blue Silver Grass evolved into the Blue Silver Emperor through the Blue Silver King's sacrifice. 52 63 64 68
Personality
Tang San is prideful, competitive, and intensely resentful of Yun Tian. He sees Yun Tian as his greatest threat and repeatedly vows to surpass or crush him, particularly after Yun Tian's rapid advancement and Xiao Wu's preference for Yun Tian. 3 12 14
He was initially deeply loyal to Yu Xiaogang and Tang Hao. He followed Xiaogang's soul-ring advice despite Yuan Hua's objections and continued to defend Xiaogang's status as a theoretical master, while Tang Hao's identity as the Clear Sky Douluo inspired both relief and confidence in him. 10 12 14 30
Following the loss of his destiny-related tag, Tang San becomes more irritable, impulsive, and prone to seeing minor slights as grave provocations. His fixation on Xiao Wu repeatedly alienated her and strained his relationships with fellow Shrek students. 6 19 24
Tang San's faith in Yu Xiaogang ultimately collapsed after Tang Hao condemned Xiaogang's guidance and the ten-year Solitary Bamboo ring. He formally severed their master-disciple relationship, later reacting with lethal rage when Xiaogang questioned Tang Hao and attempting to strangle him with Blue Silver Grass. 64 76
Despite his hostility, Tang San can be pragmatic and composed when his ambitions are involved. He agreed to operate on Dai Mubai after the latter humbled himself before him, and he intends to use Dai Mubai's prospective imperial throne to rebuild the Tang Sect. 53 81
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses the Blue Silver Emperor and the Clear Sky Hammer, though he initially kept the latter secret.
- Blue Silver Grass / Blue Silver Emperor — Originally used as a control-type martial soul; Tang San attempted to spread it across the Soul Arena to direct Shrek's strategy. During Tang Hao's year of training, it evolved into the Blue Silver Emperor. 26 28 68
- Clear Sky Hammer — His concealed second martial soul and the basis for Tang Hao's confidence in Tang San's future potential. Tang Hao trained him in its associated secret arts, but Tang San has been ordered not to reveal it casually during the tournament. 3 10 64 89
- Limitation — Yun Tian's gravitational spear force destroyed Tang San's Blue Silver Grass and prevented it from sprouting during their team battle. 28
- Four-ring configuration — Following his Blue Silver Emperor evolution, Tang San possesses a white first ring, yellow second ring, purple third ring, and ten-thousand-year black fourth ring. 68 75
Tang Sect Legacy
Tang San retains techniques and knowledge from the Tang Sect.
- Possesses hidden-weapon techniques, cultivation methods, and other Tang Sect arts. 4
- Uses silver needles as concealed weapons; an attempted attack on Xiao Chenyu accidentally pierced Yu Xiaogang's arm instead. 5
- Is knowledgeable about poisons and proposed using realgar wine and Ma Hongjun's flames to neutralize Dugu Yan's poison. 26
- His poison knowledge did not prevent him from suffering severe Mandala Snake venom when injured and unable to prepare an antidote. 9
- Possesses the Purple Demon Eyes, which he used to break Canghui Academy's Seven Asura Illusion and avoid its mental control. 79
- His precise manual skills and knowledge of poisons led Yu Xiaogang and Flender to entrust him with attempting surgery on Dai Mubai. 52 53
Mysterious Heaven Skill
Tang San cultivates through the Mysterious Heaven Skill.
- Its circulation suffered a severe backlash after Yun Tian removed Tang San's Plane Destiny tag. 4
- The backlash caused internal-energy reversal, damaged his meridians, and left him coughing blood. 4
- He relied on the technique alongside Blue Tyrant Academy's mimetic cultivation environment to reach level 30. 52
Clear Sky Sect Techniques
During his year under Tang Hao's guidance, Tang San learned techniques associated with the Clear Sky Hammer.
- Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer — Completely mastered during Tang Hao's training. 68
- Clear Sky Nine Absolutes — Began preliminary training in the technique. 68
- Tang San has questioned why Tang Hao taught him hammer techniques while also forbidding the public use of the Clear Sky Hammer, leading him to suspect a connection to Spirit Hall. 89 90
Equipment / Items
- Twenty-Four Bridges Bright Moon Night — A storage belt gifted by Yu Xiaogang; Tang San named it himself. 7
- Silver needles — Concealed weapons used in his Tang Sect techniques. 5
- Dagger — Carried during his first soul-ring hunt. 9
Relationships
- Yun Tian — Rival and primary object of Tang San's jealousy. Tang San regards him as a threat, blames him for many setbacks, and repeatedly vows to defeat him. Following Tang San's return from training, his hatred becomes overt enough that his teammates must restrain him from attacking Yun Tian in Heaven Dou City. 1 3 14 37 71
- Yu Xiaogang — Former teacher and mentor. Tang San accepted him as master after Xiaogang identified his twin martial souls, though Tang San later resented him over the white first soul ring. At Tang Hao's urging, Tang San formally ended their master-disciple relationship and subsequently tried to kill him when Xiaogang challenged Tang Hao's authority. 3 14 64 76
- Tang Hao — Father and the Clear Sky Douluo. Tang Hao considers Yun Tian a stepping stone for Tang San's growth, later escapes with Tang San after confronting Yun Tian, and personally trains Tang San in Clear Sky Sect techniques for a year. 12 30 32 63 68
- Xiao Wu — Tang San develops an immediate attachment to her, but his conduct makes her uncomfortable and damages their relationship. Xiao Wu ultimately sacrifices herself to empower Yun Tian during Tang Hao's confrontation with him. 6 19 31
- Yuan Hua — Former Notting Academy headmaster. Tang San resents him for favoring Yun Tian and for refusing him a graduation certificate, vowing revenge after leaving the academy. 20
- Dai Mubai — Blue Tyrant Battle Team teammate and political ally. Tang San agreed to attempt surgery for him after Dai Mubai pleaded for help; in return, Dai Mubai promised him the position of Imperial Preceptor if he became emperor. Tang San intends to use Dai Mubai's throne to restore the Tang Sect. 53 81
- Blue Tyrant Battle Team — Teammates in the Continental Advanced Spirit Master Academy Tournament. Tang San's strength and leadership are central to the team's victories, although he often views himself as carrying less capable teammates. 75 79 89 90
