Wade pried open the distinctive wax seal and unfolded the envelope. As he took out the letter, he discovered there was something else inside, heavy and solid.

Wade picked up the letter and tipped the envelope upside down. A small metal pendant fell out with a clink.

It was an accessory common among teenagers: several silver metal rings of varying sizes twisted together, with a tiny sword at the center. At first glance, it looked rather cool.
