A sickly flush spread across Perez's pale face, and a twisted smile appeared on his lips:
"But the Muggles you despise are far more sincere than the bureaucrats of the Wizarding World! They'll open up all their secrets, all their resources, to me!"
Hawthorne could not help saying, "Wake up, Reginald! Trusting those Muggles is the most foolish choice you could make."
"They open their secrets to you only to drain you of your knowledge and Magic Power, then cast you aside without mercy!"
"The 'Essence of Time' you seek is, in their eyes, nothing more than another 'resource' to monopolize and sell!"
"Ha ha!" Perez laughed. As he looked at Hawthorne, there was even a trace of lofty superiority in his gaze.
"Idiot! What an idiot! Hawthorne, did you think I didn't know the Muggles had things they wanted too? Only fools fixate on what others have gained and hope others want nothing at all!"
"But I don't care! I don't care whether those stupid Muggles can achieve immortality! I only care about what I can get!"
"As for what you said about being cast aside, that's even more ridiculous... Why? Because they know that only I can unravel the secrets of Time Magic for them, only I can free them from time's prison!"

He gave a scornful laugh, his voice filled with contempt:
"Look at that fool Aldridge Corbett! For a little money... some paper printed by Muggles! He was satisfied like a child given candy, selling intelligence, selling out his own kind!"
"He doesn't understand that all he touched was the most superficial, filthiest scraps! The things of real value, the power of time itself, he never even came close to!"
