Background / History

Kurama received the largest share of chakra when the Sage of Six Paths divided the Ten-Tails. Its nature remains connected to the God Tree, allowing it to convert natural energy directly into its own chakra 529 603.

It remembers fighting both Uchiha Madara and Senju Hashirama. Madara immediately made it a puppet through the Sharingan, while Hashirama confronted it with a Wood Golem. These encounters prevented it from testing a smaller, speed-focused combat form it had already conceived 534 535.

Its history of captivity includes confinement within Mito Uzumaki and Kushina Uzumaki. By the time Seisen addresses it as “Kurama,” no human has called it by that name since the Sage of Six Paths died. It associates humans with imprisonment, exploitation, and being treated as a weapon rather than an individual 602 606.

Appearance

• Giant fox form: A mountain-sized orange-red fox with a savage head, enormous claws, scarlet eyes, and nine tails compared to giant pythons. Its body destroys the safe house when it escapes Kushina’s seal 513.

Personality

Kurama is intensely proud of being the strongest tailed beast. It regards being physically beaten, divided, or handled like a pet as assaults on its dignity. During its first fight with Seisen, humiliation drives it into increasingly frantic attacks, but it eventually recognizes that brute size is a disadvantage and changes tactics 529 533 534 535.

Its hostility toward humans comes from repeated control and imprisonment. It initially rejects Seisen’s offer of cooperation as another attempt to turn it into a weapon. Mentioning Madara, the Sharingan, and Wood Release provokes both terror and rage, revealing how strongly its past captivity still affects it 602 609.

Away from battle, its pride conceals a strong desire for freedom, affection, and ordinary pleasures. It reluctantly accepts outings, denies interest in human food, and then enthusiastically eats Ayane’s grilled meat and dango. Its attachment becomes strong enough that it asks to leave the sealing space specifically to play with her 603 606 607 631.

It can reason and compromise when its independence is threatened. After learning that revival of the Ten-Tails would erase its consciousness, it agrees to cooperate with Seisen while insisting that it merely wants to preserve access to Ayane’s cooking 610.

Night of the Nine-Tails

Kurama breaks free from Kushina’s seal during the attack surrounding her child’s birth. The masked man takes control through the Sharingan, directs it against Sarutobi Biwako, and summons it into central Konoha. Its rampage devastates streets and overwhelms the ANBU response 513 515.

Minato transfers its first Tailed Beast Bomb to an uninhabited mountain range while Hiruzen forces it beyond the village. Minato then defeats the masked man and uses a Contract Seal to sever his connection to Kurama. Freed from ocular control, Kurama continues attacking of its own accord 517 520.

After Gamabunta temporarily pins it down, Minato teleports Kurama and another forming bomb away from Konoha 521.

Division and Sealing

Seisen intervenes in Minato’s sealing plan and proposes leaving only one-tenth of Kurama’s chakra inside Kushina, whose exhausted body cannot suppress the whole beast. He restrains Kurama with Spirit Particle Chains and cuts off its right claw; the severed portion reforms into a lesser Nine-Tails 527 528 529.

The lesser beast initially resists Kushina’s pull. Seisen’s chains drain and annihilate its chakra until she can draw it back into herself, after which Minato completes the reinforced seal. The main Kurama reacts with rage at having its power divided 529 530.

Seisen then releases the main body for a direct confrontation. Kurama develops its speed-type form and mobile bombardment tactics, but Seisen defeats it with physical attacks and Reishi weaponry. Severely injured, it requests a truce and another match; instead, Seisen orders it to enter the opening over his abdomen, and it complies 531 533 535 537 539 541.

Stone Gate Depletion

The Stone Gate detects Kurama’s chakra as high-level energy and begins extracting it for an upgrade. Kurama protests that it has neither attacked the seal nor provoked Seisen, but the drain continues until it becomes visibly weakened and unable to provide useful chakra on request 554 559 560.

The first prolonged extraction drains thirty percent of its chakra over three months. Its isolation from outside energy prevents recovery, while Seisen’s Tailed Beast True Meaning: Vajra Wrath further suppresses its ability to resist 594 602.

Conditional Freedom and Cooperation

Seisen addresses it by its true name and acknowledges the resentment caused by decades of captivity. He offers time outside if it restrains its destructive impulses. Kurama accepts and begins absorbing natural energy in a secluded canyon 602 603.

It subsequently returns to Konoha in miniature form under additional seals. Ayane’s food and affection make life outside the cage increasingly appealing 604 605 606 607.

When Seisen explains the tailed-beast collection campaign and the danger of losing its consciousness in a revived Ten-Tails, Kurama agrees to a full-cooperation contract. Their fist-and-paw exchange supplies the chakra needed for Perfect Tailed Beast Mode 609 610.

Renewed Extraction

After regaining its original size, Kurama is asked to supply chakra to the Stone Gate again. It accuses Seisen of deception when the extraction approaches twenty percent instead of the promised ten. Seisen constricts the channels with spiritual chains, slowing the drain but failing to disconnect them 631 632.

Seisen later exhausts himself suppressing the Stone Gate to prevent it from draining Kurama completely. On arriving at the Land of Wind battlefield, he redirects the far greater energy of the Ten-Tails and God Tree toward the gate 684.
