| Type | Destructive chakra attack used by Tailed Beasts and transformed jinchūriki 106 148 153. |
| Known Users | Two-Tails Matatabi through Yugito Nii; Eight-Tails Gyūki and Killer B; Nine-Tails; four captured Tailed Beasts commanded by Pain 106 153 155 536 641. |
| First Appearance | Chapter 106, “Tailed Beast Bomb.” |
Formation and Appearance
Chakra Compression
The attack forms by gathering and compressing chakra within or immediately before the user's mouth 106 155 516.
- Two-Tails: Blue and red chakra spheres gather between its extended tails and open jaws, compressing into a deep-black sphere. Nearby space appears distorted and the light dims 106.
- Complete Eight-Tails: Blue and red chakra spheres compress into a black-and-red sphere that expands as more chakra enters it 155.
- Nine-Tails: Black Yang Release chakra and white Yin Release chakra gather into a high-density energy sphere 516.
- Launch: The Two-Tails fires its sphere like a meteor; Killer B's seven-tailed form releases the attack as a dark-red beam more than ten meters thick 106 153.
Abilities and Variants
Destructive Force
The Tailed Beast Bomb destroys fortifications and reshapes terrain through direct impact, explosions, and shockwaves 106 517.
- The Two-Tails' shot erases a city wall, the base behind it, prepared traps, rock layers, and forest. It leaves a ravine dozens of meters wide stretching beyond the observers' sight 106.
- Killer B's beam is described as powerful enough to flatten a mountain peak. Even after being divided, its energy destroys forests and hills along both diverted paths 153.
- A Nine-Tails bomb relocated dozens of kilometers outside Konoha produces a mushroom cloud and a shockwave that shatters every window in the village 517.
- Matatabi regards the technique as the ultimate destructive power symbolizing the Tailed Beasts' authority as “natural disasters” 154.
Documented Variants
| Form | User | Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| Large sphere | Two-Tails; complete Eight-Tails; Nine-Tails | A concentrated projectile formed at the mouth. Its size and appearance vary between users 106 155 532. |
| Chakra-shell barrage | Five-tailed Killer B | Numerous red shells saturate the battlefield. One grazing shot instantly evaporates part of a lake, while steam and shockwaves interfere with evasive movement 147 148. |
| Beam | Seven-tailed Killer B | A dark-red energy beam more than ten meters wide, used against both Seisen and his allies 153. |
| Mini Tailed Beast Bombs | Humanoid Nine-Tails | Head-sized, intensely compressed spheres with fine black lightning across their surfaces. They are less than one percent the size of its previous bomb but over ten times faster; each can flatten a small mountain 536. |
| Tailed Beast Gatling | Humanoid Nine-Tails | Rapid fire of dozens to hundreds of Mini Tailed Beast Bombs. The Nine-Tails subsequently fires while running and leaping, continually changing attack angles 536 537. |
Limitations and Countermeasures
Tactical Risks
- Collateral damage: Killer B proposes clearing a battlefield with a bomb, but the Fourth Raikage refuses because Konoha and Kumogakure forces are intermingled. He warns that full transformation and indiscriminate destruction would cause massive allied casualties 234 235.
- Vulnerable preparation: Seisen strikes the Nine-Tails before its house-sized bomb can fire, snapping its jaws shut and forcing the attack down its throat. The bomb detonates internally 532 533.
- Uncontrolled detonation: A Two-Tails bomb explodes inside the Radiance-Shattering Array, whose rising chakra torrent redirects the blast upward 134.
Successful Defenses
| Countermeasure | Result |
|---|---|
| Early retreat and course change | Seisen leads the defenders away, then turns ninety degrees to escape the Two-Tails' firing path 106. |
| Tilted Armor Water Wall | Angled surfaces and high-speed rotating currents divert Killer B's barrage toward the sky, though the redirected shells still cause secondary destruction 148. |
| Spirit Bow shield | Seisen reshapes his bow into a diamond-shaped shield that divides Killer B's beam into two streams without an explosion at the shield 153. |
| Soul-Cutting Blade | Enhanced with high-density spirit particles, the blade cuts a beam down the middle, protecting the allies behind Seisen 153 154. |
| Spirit-particle sphere | Seisen counters complete Gyūki's bomb with an equally large sphere. During preparation, blue-white particles are stripped from the forming bomb and absorbed into his attack 155. |
| Flying Thunder God: Guiding Thunder | Minato transfers the Nine-Tails' projectile to an uninhabited mountain range instead of allowing it to strike Hokage Rock 517 597. |
| High-speed predictive evasion | Seisen navigates gaps between the Nine-Tails' rapid-fire bombs, including its moving barrage 537. |
| Giant spirit-particle bow and arrow | Seisen intercepts the Nine-Tails' colossal attack aimed at Konoha. The resulting energy clash shatters the protective barrier 540. |
| Flying Thunder God barrier | Using the Blue Sternritter Medal, Minato absorbs four incoming bombs into a patterned blue barrier and transfers the attacks away from Konoha 642. |
Major Uses
Two-Tails Engagements
Yugito Nii evacuates people before fully transforming and firing at the defenders' position. Seisen recognizes her preparations and orders an immediate withdrawal, saving the group before their fortifications disappear 106. In a later confrontation, an out-of-control bomb detonates within his array; after the redirected blast fades, Yugito remains wounded at the crater's center 134.
Killer B Battle
Killer B first overwhelms Seisen's escape routes with a five-tailed barrage, then uses his seven-tailed form to fire directly at Seisen and subsequently at the allies receiving the captured Yugito 148 153. Seisen's successful interception astonishes both human witnesses and Matatabi; Gyūki then takes control of Killer B and escalates to its complete form 154 155.
Nine-Tails Confrontations
During the attack on Konoha, Minato redirects a bomb away from Hokage Rock and later teleports the Nine-Tails while another bomb is forming 517 521. Against Seisen, the Nine-Tails progresses from large projectiles to compressed rapid-fire shells and mobile bombardment, before returning to its colossal form for an attack deliberately aimed at Konoha 532 536 537 540.
Pain's Assault on Konoha
Pain orders four captured Tailed Beasts to prepare bombs while Obito and Orochimaru prevent Konoha's strongest fighters from interrupting them 641. Minato's barrier swallows all four launched attacks. The bombs are subsequently unleashed within the Hidden Rock army's central command tent, turning the intended village-destroying strike against an enemy military position 642.
