"Not allowed in?"
The old man looked at the three children behind him, surprise in his voice. He seemed torn, yet also as though he had made up his mind.
"Let me take them in first. These three little ones have food poisoning and need treatment immediately. After this, I, Owuya Bai, won't bring any more people to the hospital!"
It was not that he was unwilling to pay for the three children. Rather, he had donated all his money to the Orphanage. Having lived through the cruelty of the Second Shinobi World War and the Third Shinobi World War, he felt even more sympathy for the orphans there.
One had to know—
The parents of those orphans had all been ninjas who died in the Third Shinobi World War.
Those children were too pitiful. He wanted to look after them however he could.
"No, Doctor Bai, you can't bring them in. If I let you in again, I can forget about keeping this job!" The Security Guard still shook his head, clearly troubled as well.
He had already received orders forbidding Doctor Bai from bringing patients inside.
If he broke the rules again, he might be fired.
"You..." Doctor Bai seemed to be in a difficult position. He did not want to keep making things hard for the Security Guard, but he simply did not have any extra money to cover their medical bills.
"While these three children still have a chance, take them across the street," the Security Guard said.
"They don't have the equipment to treat food poisoning over there!" Doctor Bai hurriedly replied, sounding dejected. "Go find the Director. If necessary, deduct it from next month's salary!"
Food poisoning was different from an injury. It required equipment for gastric lavage and treatment. If it were external injuries, he could use Chakra to heal them, along with medicine to repair the damage.
"Doctor Bai, please don't make things difficult for us!" He looked troubled. "The Director won't agree. The order has already been set in stone!"
Disappointment appeared on Doctor Bai's face. If he could not use the equipment, he could only resort to a Chakra scalpel and surgery, cutting open their abdomens to remove the food from their stomachs before using Yang Release Chakra to cleanse their bodies.
But that way—
Without the support of precise instruments, the three patients' survival rate would be less than thirty percent, perhaps only twenty percent.
Seeing that he could not get into the hospital, he could only resort to the desperate option.
"Let them in and treat them first. This young master will pay!" Xuanyu's voice suddenly rang out among them, and everyone turned to look.
The old man did not know Xuanyu, but the Security Guard recognized him. "Young Master Xuanyu, you want to pay for these three commoners' treatment?"
They had all heard that the Uchiha Clan stood above everyone else and looked down on commoners. Yet Xuanyu was actually willing to pay for commoners to be treated?
"Obviously. If I don't pay, are you going to?" Xuanyu nodded.
"Thank you!" Doctor Bai thanked Xuanyu, then led the three pale-faced children into the hospital. "Little one, once I've treated these three children, this old man will come find you!"
With those words, the aged figure departed.
Xuanyu did not pay it much mind. He took Hua Yu back to the ward, and the group resumed their training.
Knock, knock, knock.
As they trained, a knock sounded at the door.
Then Hashira's Attending Physician entered, followed by an old man. It was the very man who had brought the three food-poisoning patients into the hospital not long ago.
"Young Master Xuanyu, let me introduce you. This is my teacher, Owuya Bai!" After entering, the Attending Physician introduced his teacher to Xuanyu, then continued gratefully, "Thank you for allowing my teacher to bring those patients inside. Otherwise, he might have spent the rest of his life feeling guilty!"
"You don't need to thank me. I deeply admire your teacher's character." Xuanyu invited them in to sit and talk.
After that,
Xuanyu learned more about Owuya Bai. He was a top-tier Medical Ninja who had participated in the Second Shinobi World War and the Third Shinobi World War, saved countless wounded people, and witnessed the horrors of war firsthand.
His contributions had originally been enough to earn him the position of Director of the Medical Clinic. However, his temperament was too unyielding, especially since he often brought in patients with no money for treatment. This made him unpopular, and he did not get along with the higher-ups either, so he had remained an Attending Physician at the hospital.
"Doctor Bai, you are a good doctor." Xuanyu looked at Owuya Bai with sincere respect.
A person like this deserved respect.
If the Third Hokage possessed even half this old man's character, Konoha would not have become like this.
"Sigh, I'm simply incompetent. After this, I'm afraid I won't be able to bring patients to the hospital anymore!" Owuya Bai was somewhat embarrassed by Xuanyu's praise. With the hospital's restrictions, he had no way to bring patients here for treatment again.
This caused him immense worry.
Looking at the troubled Owuya Bai, an idea arose in Xuanyu's mind. "Mr. Owuya Bai, what if I opened a hospital and made you its Director?"
Once the thought took root in his mind, it began spreading wildly.
Open a hospital!
With the wealth of Xuanyu's useless father, it would be easy—practically effortless.
Moreover, things had been growing increasingly unstable lately. Ninjas escorting goods were often injured, and the Merchant Guild alone spent no small amount at hospitals. Opening their own hospital would not only give their members better treatment, but also allow them to openly recruit top-tier Medical Ninjas.
Some matters needed to be planned for in advance.
Hashirama Cells, Uzumaki Cells—especially Uzumaki Cells, which could store more Chakra—required extensive experimentation. The Nurturing Spirit Technique might very well need them in the future.
And with such a benevolent doctor as the Director, it could also restore some of the Uchiha clansmen's reputation.
Three benefits in one move.
Oh, and it could make money too.
Opening a hospital was absolutely the right decision. He would persuade his father as soon as he got home today.
"Open a hospital? You...?" Owuya Bai found it difficult to believe. Xuanyu was still so young. Even if he wanted to open one, Uchiha Hanjō might not agree.
"Mr. Bai, don't doubt my words just yet!" Xuanyu saw Owuya Bai's skepticism and said, "As long as you join my hospital, your salary will be three times what it is here. Also, commoners facing financial hardship will only need to pay the cost of the medicine. And you will have two free treatment slots every month—the medical expenses will be covered by us!"
Such generous terms would not mean losing money, but the profits would be very low.
Owuya Bai's eyes lit up.
He looked at Xuanyu and cautiously asked, "Are you really going to build a hospital? You're not deceiving this old man, are you?"
If those conditions were real, he would gladly become the Director.
"You can agree first. If my hospital is not built within three months, you don't have to come," Xuanyu said with a smile when he saw Owuya Bai was tempted.
"Alright. If your hospital is truly built, then this old man agrees to join it!" Owuya Bai nodded, giving himself hope as well. "The Uchiha Clan has produced a fine junior indeed~~"
"It's a deal. This junior, Xuanyu, will await Elder Bai's arrival!" A smile appeared on Xuanyu's face. Looking at Owuya Bai, he continued with a grin, "During this time, you can look for other doctors. Anyone willing to join my new hospital will receive a salary based on their ability—one and a half or even twice what they earn now!"
As soon as he said that—
The Attending Physician treating Senju Hashirama also began to feel tempted.
If Uchiha Xuan Yu's hospital truly opened, then he would go with his teacher.
And so, the more they talked, the more enjoyable the conversation became.
Suddenly, Hashira's Attending Physician said, "Teacher, it's rare for you to visit. This patient of mine suffered very serious external injuries. Could you take a look and see whether he can make a full recovery, and whether there will be any lasting effects?"
His teacher had been on the battlefield several times. When it came to treating external injuries, he was exceptionally skilled.
If Senju Hashirama received his teacher's treatment, he might not suffer any aftereffects in the future.
I've been a little busy these past two days, so I had to rush this chapter out.
I already owe everyone three chapters.
There may not be an update tonight. Tomorrow, there will be at least four chapters, possibly five!
If I still can't make up for it tomorrow, I absolutely won't sleep!
I'm embarrassed to even ask for favorites and recommendations today!
Thank you all for your support!
Tomorrow's plot will be about the conflict between the Uchiha Clan and the protagonist. Don't worry, it'll be satisfying!
Before you continue
