"Taylor, go fetch that piece of red metal for me."
"Taylor, help me connect the mana channels of this construct puppet. Optimize them as much as you can. I'll give you the relevant guidance."
"This is a book on the different types of magical metals. Study it carefully and memorize it. It will be extraordinarily useful for researching puppets and constructs in the future."
Taylor had barely moved into Wizard Krite's wizard tower before Krite began using him like an apprentice.
After their initial exchange, not only Taylor, but also Kano and Bobby within his mind, had to marvel at Wizard Krite's knowledge. It was as vast as the ocean—he was practically a living library.
From elemental knowledge and sorcery rune knowledge to puppets, construct puppets, and even vaguely understood spatial studies, Wizard Krite was proficient in nearly everything.
Moreover, although Wizard Krite's personal tower appeared to be only twelve meters tall with merely three floors, each floor actually involved spatial compression. Sorcery formations formed from countless sorcery runes compressed space into the tiny tower, making its interior more than a hundred times larger than its exterior suggested.
Although living in the wizard tower meant he could not use his Plane Traversal ability, Taylor felt no dissatisfaction. Here, he could see broader horizons, learn more methods for creating puppets and constructs, and gain access to more resources.
"Taylor, when it comes to connecting mana channels, you're already more skilled than I was at the time."
Before a massive construct puppet, Krite carefully examined the mana channels Taylor had drawn and even poured his own mana into them for testing.
He found that while the channels' strength and stability were inferior to those he made himself, they had already reached the limit an apprentice could achieve.
Astonished by Taylor's potential in puppet and construct studies, Krite said with a sigh, "As expected, an apprentice like you is an excellent helper in both research and experiments."
He had lost count of how many times he had said that.
Standing beside Krite, Taylor wore gloves on both hands as he handed a metal ingot mixed with black-red power to him.
"Teacher, this is the Abyssal Iron you needed."
With a wave of Krite's hand, the black-red Abyssal Iron immediately floated into his palm. He then tossed it into a special furnace, and before long, the Abyssal Iron melted into a pool of black-red metallic liquid.
"Taylor, watch my next steps carefully."
After reminding Taylor, Krite focused his mind and prepared for the next operation.
Before Krite's powerful mental force, the pool of black-red metallic liquid moved as flexibly as an extension of his own body, transforming into all manner of sorcery runes. Some represented burning, some explosion, and some penetration.
They formed enchantment formations of various sizes and combinations upon the construct puppet's enormous right arm, seeping directly through its metal body and becoming beautiful patterns.
As Krite used the metallic liquid transformed from Abyssal Iron to enchant the construct puppet, Taylor watched from the side with rapt attention. Not only him—Kano and Bobby within his mind also focused on the scene with all their strength.
If such a scene were shown among the apprentices outside, it would certainly cause an enormous uproar. After all, it was rare to see a Level One Wizard personally demonstrate how to use Abyssal Iron, a metal with exceptionally strong magical conductivity, to strengthen and enchant a construct puppet.
Once the enchantment was complete, Krite did not even spare the massive construct puppet a glance. It was merely part of a transaction between him and another wizard. His focus and attention were now on his newly accepted apprentice, Taylor.
"From watching what I just did, how much did you learn?"
"Teacher, I learned..."
Krite could not have been more satisfied with Taylor. Not only did he possess wildly imaginative ideas regarding elemental puppets and construct puppets, but he had also independently proposed simplifying construct puppets into a beggar's version that even apprentices could manufacture. That was an astonishing innovation.
Although the simplified construct puppet had been given the strange name Magic Mech, Krite clearly did not care in the slightest. After all, it had been proposed by his apprentice.
Discovering an apprentice as gifted as Taylor in construct puppet studies had made Krite's daily life much easier.
Today was only Taylor's first day here, yet his profound foundation of knowledge and talent in construct puppet studies had already greatly relieved much of Krite's usual burden.
Taylor could handle certain mana channel connections, as well as the enchantment and combination of certain sorcery runes. This would not only test and hone Taylor's practical use of sorcery runes and mana channel connections, but also lessen Krite's own workload.
All Krite had to do now was inspect Taylor's completed work, point out its shortcomings, offer his own suggestions, and then impart some knowledge so Taylor could improve on his own.
It saved effort, saved worry, and could even help him out. Wasn't an apprentice like this exactly what he had always dreamed of?
After completing the necessary construct assembly and elemental puppet components, Taylor followed Krite into a room filled entirely with books. There, he began discussing theories and designs concerning puppet studies, mana conduction studies, elemental resonance studies, and Magic Mechs with Krite.
Such "discussions" would be held about once a week from then on.
Under normal circumstances, the difference in knowledge between an apprentice and a wizard was as vast as a chasm. It was simply impossible for an apprentice and a wizard to discuss theories together.
Taylor could barely sustain such exchanges with Krite because he was effectively three-in-one, with three consciousnesses able to constantly think, clash, and communicate. In addition, he had an entire plane behind him, serving as support through its knowledge of magic runes, Magic Mechs, and magical conduction.
In fact, much of the time, Taylor merely proposed a conjecture or introduced some knowledge from the Zombie Plane. Krite handled the rest of the discussion alone. Rather than an exchange, it was more like Wizard Krite testing and guiding Taylor.
At the apprentice level, Taylor was indeed outstanding. But measured against a wizard's standards, his knowledge was still far too shallow.
Krite enjoyed this as well. The novel perspectives and imaginative theories gave him greater room to advance along his future path in construct studies and puppet studies.
After all, behind the Taylor he was discussing matters with stood a plane that had popularized magic and runes, made them widespread, and even pioneered inferior construct puppets for military competition.
