Background / History

Maggie is Anglie Leo's distant cousin. Her family fell into poverty and sought refuge with the Leo Family; her parents work in Kyle Castle in exchange for wages, leaving Maggie in a substantially lower position than Anglie's half-sister Cilier. She and Cilier nevertheless cultivate closeness with Anglie, whose expected succession would strongly affect their security. 2 7

After Anglie returns to the castle following his injury, Maggie waits with Cilier to check on him. She becomes one of his regular attendants, answering his calls, carrying messages, escorting others, and reporting on castle affairs. 2 3 4 9 11

Maggie asks Anglie to arrange less strenuous work for her mother, Alice, also referred to as Lady Jielin. Anglie raises the matter with Ward, and her mother is transferred to an easier position; Maggie is visibly grateful afterward. 7 30

When Kyle Castle falls into crisis, Maggie witnesses Anglie repel the rebels and chooses to flee with him, Baron Kyle, Cilier, and the loyal survivors. Her parents support the decision, seeing Anglie's strength and importance to the group. 23

During the journey, Maggie works with Cilier to gather and sort hundreds of plants and insects for Anglie's enhancement experiments. Count Philip initially attempts to requisition both girls as attendants, but Anglie refuses on their behalf. Philip later attempts to abduct Maggie and Cilier, leading Anglie to kill him and his knights. 30 33 35

After reaching Maruya Port, Maggie remains among the displaced members of Anglie's household. A later letter states that she tried several kinds of work without showing a particular aptitude; her continued favorable treatment is attributed to her connection with Anglie. 36 41

By the time Anglie returns to the Leo household, Maggie has died after contracting what was believed to be a serious illness and has been buried at Red Rock Mountain Cemetery. Anglie exhumes her body and discovers evidence that she was poisoned rather than dying naturally. Using a tracking spell, he identifies Gerald, the port warden, as her murderer and orders the destruction of Gerald's lineage in retaliation. 141 142
