Background / History

Konoha was jointly founded by the Senju and Uchiha clans, according to Senju Chiba. He identifies the First and Second Hokage as his great-granduncles and portrays the village as having been built on the Senju Clan's sacrifices. 10 16

By the beginning of the story, the Senju Clan has been reduced to Chiba as its sole remaining heir following losses in the Second Shinobi War. Chiba alleges that Konoha's leadership repeatedly assigned Senju members to dangerous front-line duties, seized or managed Senju assets, and sought to prevent another Wood Release user from emerging. 1 8 16

After Chiba awakens Wood Release in Tanzaku Street, Konoha dispatches ANBU to arrest him on accusations of desertion, murder, and theft. Root later issues an execution order, authorizing Chiba's corpse to be delivered to its laboratory. 8 10

Chiba returns openly with Tsunade and Shizune, triggering widespread public speculation about a Senju revival. His confrontation with Hiruzen Sarutobi and the village advisors ends with Konoha returning the Senju ancestral estate, five South District Commercial Street properties, and thirty million ryō. 15 18 19

Chiba renovates the recovered estate with Wood Release and publicly rehangs the Senju plaque, announcing the clan's official return to Konoha. Villagers respond with celebration, while the village leadership becomes increasingly concerned about the clan's renewed influence. 20

Return of the Senju Clan

The reconstruction of the Senju ancestral estate and rehanging of its plaque become a public declaration that the clan has returned. The event inspires celebration among villagers and alarms Konoha's political leadership. 20

Chunin Exams Administration

Hiruzen appoints Chiba chief examiner and security director for the joint Chunin Exams, granting him authority over order and diplomatic security. Chiba uses this authority to stop violence among contestants and impose a mental-chakra endurance test. 48 51 53
