Battle Against Roxanne

"I'm counting on you for the first match, Elekid!"

The Poké Ball Gary threw was opened in an instant, and a golden Elekid appeared on the field, facing off against Roxanne's Geodude. It was Gary's current ace, an Elekid that had already reached Level 29.

"Against my Rock- and Ground-type Geodude, you're actually using an Electric-type Elekid, Gary?"

After seeing Gary send out Elekid, the corner of Roxanne's mouth twitched slightly as she questioned him in an odd tone.

"That's right." Gary nodded before continuing, "I have my reasons."

"Fine." Seeing that Gary insisted, Roxanne did not press the matter further. Instead, she said, "Then let me see what you're capable of, Gary!"

"Sure!"

As soon as Gary agreed, the referee immediately announced, "The battle begins!"

The moment the referee's words fell, Gary immediately began directing his Elekid.

"Elekid, use Quick Attack!"

At Gary's command, white light instantly wrapped around Elekid's body. It then dashed toward Geodude at full speed.

"Geodude, use Defense Curl!"

As a layer of light flashed across Geodude's body, its Defense rose considerably after using Defense Curl.

With its Defense greatly enhanced, Geodude did not attempt to dodge Elekid's incoming Quick Attack.

After being struck by Elekid, it merely retreated a few steps and suffered no substantial damage.

"Next, use Rollout!" After withstanding Elekid's Quick Attack, Roxanne issued her next command.

Upon hearing Roxanne's words, Geodude immediately curled into a ball and rolled toward Elekid.

"Elekid, use Quick Attack to dodge!"

Elekid used Quick Attack once more, vanishing from its original spot and avoiding Geodude's Rollout attack.

"Oh, you're pretty lucky." Seeing Elekid evade Rollout, a smile appeared on Roxanne's face. "You can dodge once or twice, but I don't believe you can keep dodging forever."

Gary insisting on using an Electric-type Pokémon against her Rock- and Ground-type Pokémon was plainly an insult to her, so Roxanne intended to teach him a lesson.

Thus, seeing Gary fall into a difficult battle was exactly what Roxanne wanted to see, and it was why she wore a smile.

"Geodude, continue with Rollout!"

After receiving Roxanne's command, Geodude adjusted its direction and continued rolling toward Elekid.

"What are you going to do, Gary?"

Rosa, watching from the side, was worried about Gary's battle. She knew very well just how Rollout grew stronger with every successive use.

After watching Elekid repeatedly use Quick Attack to evade Geodude's Rollout, Gary had already thought of a way to deal with it.

So, when Geodude adjusted its direction and charged at them once again, Gary decisively gave Elekid its next command.

"Elekid, use Focus Blast! Attack the ground in front of Geodude!"

"Whatever you're planning is useless." Though she did not know what Gary intended with that command, Roxanne had faith in Geodude and did not take it to heart.

After hearing Gary's words, Elekid immediately used Focus Blast, striking the ground ahead of Geodude as it rolled forward.

When Elekid's Focus Blast struck the ground, it quickly formed a pit since the battle arena was made of rock.

Geodude, still rolling, naturally failed to notice it and rolled straight into the pit, becoming trapped and unable to break free for the moment.

"Not good, get out of there!"

Seeing this, Roxanne understood Gary's strategy and immediately shouted at Geodude.

However, Gary would not let this hard-won opportunity slip away, so he immediately shouted to Elekid.

"Elekid, use Focus Punch!"

At Gary's command, Elekid immediately used Focus Punch on the Geodude that had just come to a stop.

Elekid's fist smashed heavily into the caught-off-guard Geodude, sending it flying on the spot.

However, Gary knew that Focus Punch alone would not deal fatal damage to Geodude, so he followed it up with another move.

"Focus Blast!"

Having just thrown out an attack, Elekid immediately gathered its energy, forming an Energy Ball before itself. Under Elekid's control, it shot toward the Geodude flying backward.

Geodude had not yet recovered from the previous attack when this move arrived right before it.

With no time to react, Geodude could only take the attack head-on.

After being hit by two consecutive Fighting-type moves, Geodude was ultimately unable to continue battling and could only suffer a regretful defeat.

"Geodude is unable to battle. Elekid wins!" Seeing Geodude's spiral eyes, the referee understood the outcome and immediately announced the result of the first round.

"Great job, Gary!" Seeing Gary defeat Geodude, Rosa cheered for her boyfriend.

"That's incredible, Gary!" Seeing Gary defeat her Geodude so cleanly and decisively, Roxanne was astonished.

"I'm flattered, Miss Roxanne." Gary smiled as he recalled the somewhat exhausted Elekid.

"Then let's proceed to the Second Round." After saying that, Roxanne did not wait for Gary's reply and directly sent out her second Pokémon.

"Go, Nosepass!"

Soon, amid the white light of the Poké Ball, a Nosepass with a huge red nose appeared on the field.

When Gary turned his gaze toward it, the system automatically displayed Nosepass's relevant information.

"I choose you, Larvitar!" Facing Roxanne's Nosepass, Gary decisively sent out his second Pokémon—the pseudo-legendary Larvitar.

"It's actually Larvitar!" Roxanne had not expected Gary's second Pokémon to be Larvitar. As the juvenile form of a pseudo-legendary, Larvitar was incredibly precious.

"My encounter with Larvitar was also a choice of fate." Seeing the surprise on Roxanne's face, Gary smiled faintly.

Upon hearing Gary's words, Larvitar likewise turned back to look at him, a faint smile appearing on its face.

"I see." Roxanne nodded after hearing that.

"Then let's continue our battle!" With that, Roxanne looked at Gary once again.
