A few days later, Uchiha Yū stumbled out of his room looking utterly drained. This period of cramming had made him question his entire life.
Along with the suffering came endless knowledge. After studying vast amounts of medical knowledge, Uchiha Yū's medical ninjutsu had improved noticeably, and the field hospital was filled with patients.
Compared to ordinary medical ninjas, Uchiha Yū's healing speed was clearly faster. It depended on his chakra control and the steadily increasing amount of Yang Release chakra within his body.
Luckily, he had already mastered the Healing Technique. Otherwise, after just one round of treatment, every injured person on the Konoha front would have turned into a casualty.
"You, this war is a little different from what I imagined."
Hyuga Reiko was protected by a group of branch family members. As a sensory ninja, her only role was to patrol the rear and prevent spies from slipping through the front line defenses.
All the dangerous work had been taken on by the branch family members. With nothing to do, she came to Konoha Hospital to find Uchiha Yū, her face full of resentment.
"Konoha hasn't officially entered the war yet, so the fighting hasn't expanded. Besides, we're positioned at the border of the Rain Village. The real problem is the alliance between the Hidden Rock Village and the Hidden Cloud Village."
Though Orochimaru had leadership talent, the truly terrifying part of the Second Shinobi World War lay in the Land of Lightning and the Land of Earth. That was the real meat grinder.
The Rain Village and Sand Village were fighting now, but knowing that Konoha and the Sand Village were allied, neither side would dare provoke them on its own initiative.
Though Hanzō was known as the demigod of the shinobi world, he was no arrogant fool. Clashing head-on with Konoha at this stage would bring no good outcome.
"We'll have to wait a while longer. Besides, I have it worse than you."
He pointed behind him at Konoha Hospital. Reiko had branch family members protecting her, and she would still fight if she encountered enemy ninjas. He had no chance of fighting at all. If the front line fell, Tsunade would prioritize evacuating the medical ninjas.
"I can't leave for now."
Hyuga Reiko craned her neck and looked inside, discovering that quite a few patients were being carried into different rooms.
"I heard about it. You proposed reforms to Lady Tsunade, and she agreed in the end. Without your proposal, many people would have died in this war."
The ninjas stationed in the rear had more or less heard Uchiha Yū's name. Despite his young age, he had already surpassed many medical ninjas in medical ninjutsu. Some had even concluded that his future accomplishments would surely rival Tsunade's.
Even if he was an Uchiha Clan member, no one would willingly make an enemy of a medical ninja. Who could avoid getting injured on the battlefield? If you ended up in a medical ninja's hands after offending them, what if they accidentally got you killed?
As the two chatted, Uchiha Yū suddenly saw an ANBU member hurrying toward where Orochimaru was staying.
Before long, troubling news spread through the camp.
"The line under Lord Nara's command has encountered a large number of allied enemy ninjas."
"The war is coming."
Their target in initiating battle was Konoha! In order to seize more territory, they had prepared a series of plans from the very beginning.
At the same time, another piece of bad news spread through the camp.
"People from the Hidden Mist Village have arrived near the Rain Village. They've begun attacking the front line!"
When Uchiha Yū heard this news, his expression immediately turned extremely grim.
"No wonder there had been no news from the Hidden Mist Village. They actually passed through the Land of Rivers and met up with the Rain Village without making a sound."
"Next, Teacher Orochimaru will have to face attacks from two villages. We'll have to advance and retreat alongside the Sand Village."
Uchiha Yū looked into the distance. Many ninjas were rapidly leaving the base, heading to the front line to carry out missions.
"Reiko, we can't rule out enemies breaking through the defenses and reaching the rear. Be sure to stay safe."
Uchiha Yū was not sure whether the ninja whose eyes had been taken by Mist ninjas was Hyuga Reiko. For safety's sake, she could not enter the battlefield.
"Don't worry. The branch family members are protecting me."
At the rear base, Uchiha Yū could clearly feel the casualty rate rising. Some of the ninjas brought in had only a thread of life left. The excitement they felt upon seeing medical ninjas only caused them to die faster.
No wonder Teacher Orochimaru lamented the fragility of life. He had seen countless comrades off in the hospital, watching lives fade away before his eyes. Even Uchiha Yū could not remain unmoved.
Unfortunately, with their current medical capabilities, they could not snatch them back from the hands of death.
"Quick! We need tourniquets here! Get someone to prepare tourniquets!"
"Cut his clothes open! Rinse it with cold water! Be careful not to widen the wound!"
"You lot, hurry up and carry the patient over!"
"Lord You! There's an emergency patient here!"
Large numbers of wounded were carried into the hospital. Fortunately, they had followed Uchiha Yū's advice, treating patients in batches and directing them to separate areas, while also expanding the rear hospital. That was the only reason the hospital system had not collapsed.
Even so, the vast number of patients placed tremendous pressure on them.
Uchiha Yū was covered in blood. The large number of patients had rapidly improved his abilities. He gripped a pale blue Chakra Scalpel in his hand and carefully removed the kunai from the other person's body.
"Whew!"
"Congratulations, you survived. But you'll need time to recover afterward."
Looking at the wounded man lying on the operating table, Uchiha Yū saw that a kunai had pierced his chest, missing his heart by only a hair. His survival depended entirely on his formidable physical constitution.
"I survived? Cough, cough... I actually survived such an injury. Thank you, Mr. You."
The ninja on the bed stared at Uchiha Yū blankly. No one at Konoha Hospital dared treat him like a child. Uchiha Yū's skills were exceptional. The patients in his hands had a zero mortality rate, even surpassing Tsunade's.
You nodded lightly, giving him an affirmative reply, then told the nurse waiting beside him, "Take him away. Begin the next operation."
The injuries he treated were all caused by kunai. Such injuries required extremely precise chakra control, especially for the ninjas brought to the operating table. All of them were hanging by a thread and could die before his eyes at any second.
That was why Uchiha Yū operated so quickly: to reduce the risk of death.
Like an emotionless machine, he treated patient after patient.
Once the war began, there was no time to rest. Uchiha Yū often spent several days in the hospital without pause, and in the end, had to be supported as he left.
Today, as he prepared to continue treating patients, a ninja used the Body Flicker Technique to appear before him.
"Nawaki?"
He had not seen Nawaki for nearly half a month. Nawaki served as Orochimaru's messenger, traveling back and forth between Konoha and the camp.
"Who would've thought that after just one month, the whole hospital would be talking about you? When will I be able to achieve what you have?"
It was impossible not to feel envious. Uchiha Yū had inherited his sister's medical ninjutsu and had already achieved remarkable success.
He felt less like an Uchiha Clan member and more like someone from the Senju Clan.
Could he be mixed-blood?
Seeing Nawaki staring blankly, You sensed that he was thinking something strange. He reached out and smacked Nawaki on the head, saying helplessly, "Why did you come to the hospital as Teacher Orochimaru's messenger? Were you specifically looking for me, or has something serious happened?"
Only then did Nawaki remember that he had come to the hospital because there was something Uchiha Yū needed to handle. He immediately relayed Orochimaru's order.
"Ah, Teacher Orochimaru said there's something that needs to be dealt with. He wants you to come over."
"Something? All right."
Anything that required Uchiha Yū to go personally was definitely not good news.
He followed Nawaki to Orochimaru's office and saw the Three Ninja gathered together. His arrival did not interrupt their argument.
In front of the others, Tsunade was arguing with Orochimaru over a matter concerning Uchiha Yū.
"Orochimaru! I don't agree with this. You plays a vital role in Konoha's medical care. The number of patients he has treated recently is nearly equal to mine!"
"That's precisely because his medical ninjutsu is so capable, and his own strength isn't bad either. Don't I know my own disciple?"
"When I first took him on, You already had the strength of a chunin. He's only grown stronger since then!"
It was rare to see Orochimaru angry. His words carried an unquestionable tone, leaving Jiraiya, who had intended to mediate, unable to speak. He knew that during wartime, obedience came before all else.
Even though Tsunade held a high status and was herself a medical ninja, Orochimaru was the commander of Konoha's forces.
"Teacher Orochimaru, Lady Tsunade."
He did not know what involving him had caused conflict between the two jonin.
His voice happened to catch Jiraiya's attention. Jiraiya walked over, pushed him in front of the two, and said, "The person concerned is here. Shouldn't You be the one to decide this?"
