Role and Authority

The Hokage directs Konoha's military and political affairs, makes final decisions on internal disputes, and represents the village in dealings with other powers.

• The office is closely associated with the Will of Fire, a doctrine taught to Konoha's Academy students as the Third Hokage's will 1.

History

Under the Third Hokage, the office sought to contain tensions between the Hokage faction and the Uchiha Clan. Hiruzen chose to suppress the assault involving Uchiha Yū rather than turn it into an open confrontation, while Danzō argued that the Uchiha were a permanent source of instability 5.

The Third Hokage later faced fallout after Danzō arranged an assassination attempt on Uchiha Yū. To avert a wider political crisis, the Hokage offered Yū access to the forbidden-technique scroll and one reasonable request as compensation 90. Despite this effort, Hiruzen's administration continued to be undermined by Danzō's actions and suspicion toward the Uchiha 331 333.

As Hiruzen's ability to manage Konoha's growing burdens declined, he considered passing responsibility to the younger generation. He entrusted Uchiha Yū, Minato, and Nawaki with negotiations concerning Akatsuki and Kumogakure 390 409. Minato eventually held the title of Fourth Hokage, but his administration remained entangled with the influence of Hiruzen and the older Hokage advisers 430 533 535.

By the period of Konoha's reconstruction and preparation against threats beyond the Ninja World, Nawaki is the current Hokage. Hyuga Reiko serves in a leading advisory capacity, including a period as acting Hokage while Minato is absent 587 590.

Relationship with Uchiha Yū
