Personality

Minato is friendly, curious, and intensely enthusiastic about training. He is exceptionally quick to learn from criticism. After Bai Ye identifies the tell in his directional changes, Minato immediately understands that concealing the motion of his toes would make him harder to predict. 4 This analytical instinct carries into later spars, where he identifies Bai Ye's unsealed Lightning Release as an uncharacteristic, impatient choice. 39

Minato is also fiercely protective of his companions. History

Ninja Academy and the Training Trio

Minato first spars with Bai Ye at the Ninja Academy. His overwhelming speed challenges Bai Ye, but Bai Ye identifies his weakness in changing direction. Rather than being discouraged, Minato immediately begins considering how to eliminate the flaw. 4

After Fugaku joins them, the three begin training together under Hatake Sakumo. Minato excels at chakra-control exercises, particularly tree climbing and water walking, and competes with Fugaku while encouraging Bai Ye's progress. 6 His three chakra natures are revealed shortly afterward. 5

Second Shinobi World War

Minato joins Bai Ye, Fugaku, Yamashiro Daisuke, and Akimichi Yoshihisa on a supply-delivery mission to the front. During an ambush, he uses Wind Release-enhanced speed and precise attacks to overwhelm enemy genin. 10

At the battlefield, he saves Fugaku from an Earth Release: Rock Iron Cannon Technique by taking the impact himself. His right arm is fractured, leaving him nearly unable to fight. 11 After more than a month of recovery under Tsunade, he immediately resumes running and training once his splint is removed. 13

Jiraiya subsequently takes an interest in Minato and summons him away from the frontline medical camp. 12 13 When Bai Ye later meets him in the Land of Rain, Minato still smiles as usual, but the brutality of the battlefield has made his gaze more serious. 14

Postwar Years

After the war, Minato returns to Konoha and reconnects with Bai Ye at the Hatake residence. 27 He later joins Bai Ye and Fugaku on Konoha's back mountain, where the three swear to stand together regardless of what Konoha becomes. 36

As Sakumo's political crisis deepens, Minato and Bai Ye disagree over the Third Hokage's actions and the meaning of the Will of Fire. Despite their conflict, Minato promises to help with Sakumo's situation. 39
