Background / History

Sakumo was already a Konoha jōnin during escalating border tensions, attending high-level meetings on deployments, intelligence, and alliances. While passing the Uchiha Clan Grounds, he observed five-year-old Byakuya Uchiha defeat three opponents with a wooden sword through instinctive, precise attacks on vulnerable points. Impressed by the child's understanding of combat, Sakumo offered to teach him swordsmanship. 2

He trained Byakuya in the fundamentals of Hatake-style swordsmanship, emphasizing that a sword must be wielded with the entire body rather than the hand alone.
