Ye Lan had never been interested in these entertainment events, but now he was intrigued.
The Choice Bandana was one of the three Pokémon items in the Choice set, also known as the Choice series.
The set included the Choice Band, which boosted physical attack by 1.5 times; the Choice Specs, which boosted Special Attack by 1.5 times; and the Choice Scarf, which increased attack speed by 1.5 times.
Without any restrictions, effects like those would be absurdly powerful.
But the Choice set earned its name for a reason. Once a Pokémon used a move while holding one of the items, it could use only that move until it was recalled and sent out again.
That made the Choice set better suited to Pokémon with high damage output that could deal serious damage in a single round. It was less suitable for a Pokémon like Serperior, which relied on its Ability to keep growing stronger over a prolonged battle. The restriction would only get in the way of its tactics.
Leafeon had no such concern. No matter how many variations of Leaf Blade it used, it was still Leaf Blade.
As Leaf Blade was a physical move, the Choice Band was an excellent fit for Leafeon. It offered a huge boost without any downside.
Every Pokémon could carry one held item, and the advantage it provided in battle was considerable.
It wasn't that Ye Lan had never learned about held items. The timing had simply never been right.
He had needed them most when he was competing at the Jindu Battle Arena, where even the slightest increase in strength could make all the difference. Back then, though, Ye Lan couldn't afford them.
