History

Leafeon was born prematurely when poachers dropped its Eevee Egg during Officer Jenny Li's pursuit. Jenny rescued the newborn and brought it to a Pokémon Center, where examinations revealed an unprecedented Ability and an unidentified condition. 61 62

As an Eevee, its mutated Ability prevented it from learning even ordinary moves such as Tackle or Growl. Professor Zhang Shuling took it to Huaxia Academy for protection and research, eventually confirming that the Ability was responsible for its inability to learn moves. 62 64 Despite this, Eevee learned human writing, read fantasy novels and manga, and independently pursued martial-arts-based training for its sole move, Leaf Blade. 64 65

Ye Lan first inspected Eevee's data and found that it knew only Leaf Blade despite reaching Peak Beginner rank. He later proposed evolving it into Leafeon as a possible way to change its condition. 57 69 The evolution experiment ultimately preserved Eevee's mutated Adaptability through Zhang Shuling's custom capsule, but left Leafeon with only Leaf Blade and a comparatively small rank increase. The massive Grass-type energy expenditure also depleted the Gym's surrounding forest. 85 86

By the time of Ye Lan's later journeys, Leafeon had joined his team. It developed Leaf Blade into specialized forms, became the team's primary reader of move manuals, and helped operate the Candy Shop alongside Oh-no Amoonguss. 194 200 248 264

As its teammates advanced, Leafeon's own growth slowed. Ye Lan recognized that Leafeon continued to train daily and devoted its remaining efforts to earning money and supporting the team. He resolved to help it find further ways to strengthen Leaf Blade. 477 During their later journey, Leafeon reunited with Jenny Li and her Arcanine, who had known it since it hatched. 459 499

Ye Lan subsequently secured Virizion's instruction for Leafeon. Leafeon is determined, imaginative, and deeply invested in fantasy-novel ideals. It views itself as a protagonist pursuing “Royal Swordsmanship,” often adopting an aloof “sword immortal” pose after attacks. 65 196 198

It is highly intelligent in practical matters: it reads and categorizes move manuals, teaches teammates their principles, manages Candy Shop earnings, and handles financial planning. However, Ye Lan notes that mentions of “protagonists” and “sword immortals” make it unusually easy to motivate. 194 248 264 446

Leafeon also has a mischievous streak. It runs an online account, secretly keeps a “ledger” tracking Serperior's jealousy toward Pokémon tribes, and once encouraged Ye Lan to challenge Zhang Pengfei. 163 416 451 It later posted that the family was bankrupt while hiding the post from Ye Lan. 552

Though its slow combat growth troubles it, Leafeon continues its daily training and works on the team's businesses to provide for its companions. Encouragement from Ye Lan helps it recover from setbacks, including Virizion's harsh assessment of Grass Form. 477 506
