"You did more than enough, Rillaboom. Leave the rest to Serperior."
Ye Lan smiled helplessly and recalled Rillaboom into its Poké Ball.
This was his first time battling an Elite Four-level Electric-type trainer like Volkner, and he had learned a lot about how Electric-type Energy could be used. He had never imagined it could linger on the field like that, allowing Electivire to enter the battle already powered up.
He should have suspected something when he saw Electivire's Motor Drive Ability. What he hadn't expected was for Electivire to actually punch itself.
Electric-type Energy couldn't hurt Electivire, but that punch had been real enough. Electivire hadn't even blinked. It was one tough Pokémon.
"This Electivire was trained personally by my main Electivire. With me commanding it, only the strongest trainers at Gym Leader level stand a chance."
"No wonder..." Ye Lan pursed his lips. Who in their right mind taught Earthquake to a Pokémon used for official Gym battles?
"What? Scared? Rillaboom was your strongest Pokémon, wasn't it? You can forfeit now, take the Sunyshore Gym Badge, and leave. It'll save us both time." Volkner glanced at the mechanical watch on his wrist.
"Oh, so you're done acting tough? All you know how to do is bully younger trainers. Leafeon, turn up the volume. I'll give him a piece of my mind!"
"Gardenia, if you come to Sunyshore Gym, we can have a full six-on-six battle. Today's match has put me in the mood."
Gardenia had reappeared on Leafeon's phone screen. This time, blue sky and white clouds raced past behind her. She was clearly heading toward Sunyshore City. Ye Lan had no idea where she had found a Flying-type Pokémon that fast.
"...I'm not battling someone who got his position through connections. I'm just coming to see my friend.
