Once Ye Lan hit the water, he gathered Grass-type Energy into a long straw so he could breathe. Then he coated his eyes with it, sharpening his vision underwater.
"Now that's more like it!"
"Since when has sitting around with a fishing rod been my style? Besides, in the water, Serperior is basically a Gyarados—a bigger Gyarados!"
"Hiss!"
Serperior rolled his eyes as he swam toward the center of the lake. He had no idea what had gotten into his Trainer today, but he supposed he could humor him this once.
Vine Whips soon appeared in Ye Lan's hands. Under his control, they shot toward the Pokémon in the water.
The others might have been fishing, but Ye Lan was the only one actually lassoing fish.
He had no better way to complete the system task.
He had considered adding some of his Pokémon Candy to the bait to see what would happen. But for the safety of Lake Valor's Water-type Pokémon, he ultimately abandoned that wicked idea.
If he did that, the Lotad line would probably be the only Water-type Pokémon left unscathed. He wondered if there were any Lotad in Lake Valor.
"Roar!"
A roar rang through the water, blasting away every one of Ye Lan's Vine Whips. Even the Water-type Pokémon that had been swimming peacefully nearby scattered.
The fishing tournament was an old tradition that had been held many times. Lake Valor's Pokémon were long accustomed to being fed by Trainers. They had not even panicked at the sight of Ye Lan underwater, confident that human Trainers would not hurt them.
Now every Water-type Pokémon nearby was gone. To Ye Lan, even their retreating backs had looked frantic.
"That cry... was it a Gyarados?"
Ye Lan patted Serperior on the head, signaling him to stay alert.
