In the Kanto Region, at the Nishinomori Research Institute.
"Flaaffy!"
"Bulba!"
"Yaru~"
In the institute's sunroom, where Grass-type Pokémon rested, Whimsicott, Amoonguss, and Bulbasaur were playing a game called Jenga.
The game originated in the Kalos Region. Players stacked wooden blocks into a neat tower, then took turns pulling blocks out without toppling it. Whoever knocked it over lost.
In the Kalos Region, it was a little game for developing children's dexterity, or simply a way for adults to pass the time.
Of course, the three had training to do every day. Even on a break, they would never be idle enough to play for no reason.
Whimsicott had come up with this game so they could train during their downtime. Amoonguss served as the base, controlling its Poison-type energy to keep the tower balanced.
Whimsicott and Bulbasaur could only use moves to pull out blocks, honing their control over how much force they used. Whoever failed had to endure the effects of Amoonguss's Poison-type energy. One game trained three Pokémon at once.
Whimsicott thought she was a training genius! Lately, she could feel herself making progress, too. If she couldn't beat Ye Lan at rock-paper-scissors, she would just have to use this game to win herself some time off!
The little game had only one drawback: the researchers who had already been afraid of them were even more afraid now...
Once Whimsicott or Bulbasaur came into contact with Amoonguss's toxin, they lost control. Even Amoonguss couldn't rein them in.
Lately, Sleep Powder and Cotton Spore had gone flying through the institute from time to time. Half the researchers would drop off to sleep, and most of the institute's work would grind to a halt.
Other times, the institute would suddenly flood. Just as panic set in, everyone would spot
