Background / History

Before joining Ye Lan, Whimsicott lived as a Cottonee in the Qinghe Wilderness Area. It first drew attention by attacking a Fearow and redirecting an angry flock toward Ye Lan and Servine, then continued following them through the wilderness. 31 35

Cottonee had previously harassed ranger Uncle Lei by disrupting the water and electricity at his station. After Lei captured it, the two reached an agreement, became friends, and Lei recognized Cottonee’s natural talent for status moves. He described battling as a way to prank opponents before an applauding audience, inspiring Cottonee to seek a Trainer. 35

Drawn to Ye Lan upon his arrival in the Wilderness Zone, Cottonee chose to join him and was captured as his second Pokémon. Ye Lan later discovered that it had been responsible for both the Fearow incident and several campfire pranks. 35

Cottonee won its first official battle against Wang Zihao’s Nidorino by using Charm, Leech Seed, Fake Tears, and Razor Leaf to deny Nidorino an opportunity to attack effectively. The fight established its signature attrition-based battle style. 49

It trained intensely at Green Sprout Gym but was briefly discouraged after learning it could never learn Vine Whip, even after evolution. Seeing Whimsicott’s appearance and its newly gained limbs restored its motivation to evolve. 74

Cottonee evolved into Whimsicott in the Snake Guardian Clan’s Sun Stone chamber. It absorbed solar energy gathered by surrounding green crystals, causing the chamber walls to crack and its fur to gain a faint golden tint. Immediately after evolving, it vowed to protect Ye Lan. 102

Appearance

Whimsicott resembles a small upright lamb covered in fluffy cotton curls. Its evolution gave it slender limbs and a more spirited presence than its round Cottonee form. 102

It is proud of its tactical style and becomes upset when others call its methods sinister or disgusting, insisting that its use of status effects is simply legitimate strategy. 187

Despite its unreliability in ordinary moments, Whimsicott can think quickly under pressure. It helped devise a way to damage the diamond-shaped crystal imprisoning Ye Lan and his allies, correctly determining that Grass-type moves could affect it. 132 137

It is loyal to Ye Lan and protective of his companions. As a Cottonee, it brought Liu Yan’s Swellow to the infirmary to guard the injured Servine, then shared bread with her. 46
