At a market east of the docks, Samwell finished making a round, then entered a wooden hut.
Inside, Natalie stood by the window, perfectly still.
Across from her, a young man covered in paints of various colors was working on a canvas.
"Is it done yet?"
"Almost, almost! Please wait just a little longer."
Samwell walked behind the young painter and carefully examined his work.
Hmm... it was acceptable.
Though it lacked any real spirit, it at least bore a resemblance.
For a painter picked at random from the market, this was good enough. He could not demand too much.
Once the painter finished the final touches, Samwell tossed him a Silver Stag.
"Is it done? Let me see, let me see!" Natalie rubbed her stiff waist and trotted over to look at the painting.
The little girl was not as picky as Samwell. It was probably her first time seeing an oil painting—and a portrait of herself, at that. She could not take her eyes off it.
But before she had seen enough, Samwell reached out and took the painting away.
"Hey~~ I'm not done looking yet!"
"If you want to look, go find a mirror. I need this painting."
"What do you need my painting for?" Natalie seemed to realize something, and her gaze suddenly turned wary.
"Children should not ask about adults' business." Samwell tossed out the excuse and headed outside.
Natalie gave a soft snort and hurried after him.
Outside, Samwell summoned two guards, then turned back to Natalie.
"They'll accompany you around the market. I have something to take care of and will be back soon."
"Where are you going?" Natalie immediately panicked. "I want to come with you!"
Samwell pointed toward the imposing castle in the distance.
