A Dorne Warrior charging at the very front had just slid into the deep, wide trench when he saw the Reachmen behind the wooden barricade hurl a barrel at him—
A barrel?
The Dorne Warrior froze for a moment, then nimbly sidestepped the barrel.
But the barrel was flimsy. It smashed apart on the ground, splashing its contents all over him.
He panicked, thinking it was some kind of deadly poison. Yet after waiting a while, he felt no physical discomfort.
Instead, he caught a powerful scent of liquor.
At the same time, he noticed that he was not the only one receiving this treatment—barrel attacks.
But what kind of damage could that possibly do?
The bizarre sight left the Dornishmen momentarily stunned.
Of course, they quickly came to their senses. Dodging the barrels hurled at them, they launched an assault on the crude defensive works before them.
The trench was only slightly deeper than an average man's height, and its slopes were not particularly steep. Since it had been hastily dug, protruding rocks were everywhere along the sides, making it easy enough to climb.
They only had to watch out for the barrels—though even getting hit by one was no big deal.
Before long, Dorne Warriors began climbing out of the trench.
But then, they encountered fierce resistance.
Behind the wooden barricade stood a row of soldiers armed with long spears. Some were Reachmen, while others were dark-skinned Wildlings, but at a unified command, they all thrust their spears forward.
For a moment, it was as though a forest of steel rushed toward them.
The quicker Dorne Warriors rolled aside or raised their shields to block, but those who reacted too slowly—or stubbornly tried to meet the spears with their swords—mostly gained several bloody holes in their bodies.
