Facing Eagle's Beak's final line of defense, the Dornish launched another assault.
But this time, the difficulty was nothing like the previous three attacks.
The smooth outer wall offered nowhere to gain a foothold. They had to rely on siege equipment such as grappling hooks and bamboo ladders to climb it.
Moreover, the Reachmen's resistance was clearly fiercer than before. Countless sharp spears rained down like a storm upon the attacking forces, splashing blooms of vivid red blood.
Atop the walls, Reach warriors swung their swords and axes, cutting apart bamboo ladders and ropes. At the same time, they hurled down stones and logs to stop the Dornish from climbing.
Yet even at this point, the Reachmen had not forgotten to smash those barrels full of wine into the Dornish ranks.
As though it were an indispensable part of the battle.
The amber liquor quickly soaked the wall's surface and the ground, mingling with crimson blood to form a horrifying, eye-searing color.
Ulric watched it all coldly, his heart unruffled.
This level of combat was what he had truly expected. The Reachmen's earlier performance had been far too abnormal, making him inevitably suspicious. But now, seeing the casualties among his Dornish soldiers begin to surge, he was instead relieved.
Such losses were nothing. What a siege required most was patience, along with a cold heart unafraid of casualties.
The only thing that still troubled him was the barrels that kept falling from the walls.
