Charles returned from the Shadow Nightmare Realm with the Book of Orenis and entered the Trial Plane to obtain Mind-Focusing Potions. He became a First-Circle Wizard, returned to Isata, and was accepted as Anderson’s student.

• Charles and Jody returned to Loran’s laboratory, where Loran warned them to keep their Shadow Nightmare Realm experience secret and offered Charles guidance for the Trial Plane.
• Charles discovered the Book of Orenis and unlocked three first-circle spells, then chose to join the Trial Plane and received equipment from Loran.
• Charles spent months preparing before entering the Trial Plane, where he fought other apprentices and survived as the gray fog forced the participants together.
• Charles entered the Challenge Tower, defeated its seven guardians with Dawnlight Arrow Rain, and won three Mind-Focusing Potions.
• Charles used the potions to transform his spiritual power, became a First-Circle Wizard, and recovered his Trial Voucher after killing apprentices who pursued it.

Charles trained as a Shadow Spy Wizard, chose a sea-dominated plane, and established himself by defeating the Claw Pirate Crew. He left the island with two ships and a new crew, while Giles’s account began to reveal the plane’s political landscape.

• Charles studied under Anderson, advanced in Boxi's research group, and successfully transformed Bruce with a Minotaur Demon bloodline.
• Anderson recruited Charles as a Shadow Spy Wizard, trained him, and helped him choose Scorchflame as a spirit companion and select a plane to scout.
• Charles and Bruce crossed into the sea plane, found an island, and reached a pirate settlement after Bruce advanced to Rank One.
• Charles attacked the Claw Pirate Crew with Abyssal Kuo-toa, captured Tide Warriors, and defeated the pirates, then recruited Dalle, Valen, Bell, and other survivors.
• After Charles judged the island unsafe, he ordered the crew to gather supplies and sailed away with two ships, leaving the imprisoned women behind.
• Charles interrogated Giles, who recounted his past and described a plane divided among three major kingdoms and many smaller territories.

Charles sold the Claw Pirate Crew’s loot, founded the Undertow Pirate Crew, and built its strength by hunting Magic Beasts, defeating the Garrote Pirate Crew, and advancing and recruiting sailors. The arc left Charles facing Gus’s threats as his new recruits decided whether to stay and train.

• Charles sold the Claw Pirate Crew’s ships and loot for Water Magic Stones, recruited Dalle, and had Bruce kill Giles.
• Charles bought the Black Pearl, named his new crew the Undertow Pirate Crew, and recruited Quake and twenty-five pirates.
• Charles trained the crew by hunting Magic Beasts, then fled when Gus’s Garrote Pirate Crew pursued the Black Pearl.
• Charles and his summoned Kuo-toa helped the Undertow pirates defeat the Garrote crew, whose surviving members surrendered.
• Charles advanced seven apprentice Tide Warriors, returned to Ship Island, and ordered his Tide Warriors to recruit discreetly.

Charles defeated the Garrote Pirate Crew and the Cutlass Gang, expanded his forces, and built a hidden base while raiding a merchant convoy. The Bone Anchor Pirate Crew investigated the Undertow crew and began preparing to seize its Demonbone Ship.

• Charles offered Qiu Qi freedom in exchange for training the pirates, then led the Undertow Pirate Crew out to sea as Gus allied with the Cutlass Gang to pursue them.
• Charles summoned Abyss Kuo-toa against the Cutlass Gang, then Bruce and the Undertow pirates defeated Gus’s boarding force and captured the Garrote ships.
• Charles returned to Bloodsail Ship Island, sold the Garrote captives, bought trained slaves, and expanded the crew before Qiu Qi helped train its sailors.
• Charles captured the Garrote Pirate Crew’s island, freed its abused slaves, and later found Gus’s hidden treasure, using the spoils to build a harbor, an Outpost Base, and a Teleportation Beacon.
• Charles’s fleet ambushed Sherry’s silk convoy, seized its ships and cargo, and Charles planned to sell the silk and build the beacon during Storm Month.
• Marcus and Isabel investigated the Undertow Pirate Crew’s sudden growth, while Charles returned to his island with new supplies and more than four hundred and fifty crew members.
• Charles chose a site on the island’s highest peak for the Outpost Base, while Marcus delayed his move and ordered Isabel to locate the Garrote Pirate Crew’s former lair.
