Ordinary zombies, relying on their meager physical strength, found it difficult to contend with the war lizardmen, all of whom were adult warriors. After all, adult war lizardmen possessed the combat power of apprentice-ranked combat professionals.
But among the zombies, there were also some that had existed for quite a long time, and their physical strength was no weaker than that of the war lizardmen.
Moreover, zombies had no intelligence and knew nothing of fear. The combat power they could unleash was considerable.
For a time, the war lizardmen's casualty rate rose sharply.
Seeing this, the two war lizardman knights could no longer hold back. They let out furious roars.
Urging on the giant lizards beneath them, they erupted with battle qi, brandished their heavy weapons, and began charging against the tide of zombies.
Their target was that powerful zombie. Kill it, and these zombies would obediently return to the dark corners of the mall.
The giant lizards stomped forward on heavy feet, shaking their heads as they charged. One opened its gaping maw and bit a zombie in its jaws.
With two vicious shakes, it tore the zombie into three pieces and flung them away.
The thick scales on its head also provided impressive defense, sending the zombies blocking its path flying with direct impacts.
Meanwhile, the war lizardman on the giant lizard's back was not idle either. The long-handled battle axe in his hands whirled up and down, killing the zombies on either side one by one.
Hearing the commotion, the Corpse King no longer remained where he was. After letting out a roar, he charged toward the war lizardman knight.
Once he closed in, he leaped forward and pounced onto the war lizardman knight.
The knight swung the battle axe in his hand. Empowered by battle qi, the blade that had once been sharp still failed to achieve the intended effect when it struck the Corpse King.
It was like hacking an unsharpened kitchen knife into old cowhide, leaving behind only a pale mark.
The war lizardman knight froze at the sight. He had not expected such an outcome.
But the Corpse King did not freeze. It stretched out its sharp claws and, with sheer brute force, seized the war lizardman's shoulders.
Then it opened its gaping maw and bit down. The armor the war lizardman knight wore, along with the scales he had once taken pride in, were now as fragile as paper.
His defenses were easily torn open by the Corpse King, and torrents of blood sprayed from the war lizardman knight's body with every bite.
The war lizardman let out a tremendous scream, calling for his companion's help.
The other war lizardman knight did not abandon his comrade. After approaching, he erupted with all the battle qi in his body and fiercely chopped the zombie's back with his battle axe.
This attack did work, leaving a shallow wound on the Corpse King's back.
That blow enraged the Corpse King. It flung away the war lizardman knight it had been biting, then rushed straight at the other knight.
This war lizardman knight cried out in terror, waving his weapon in an attempt to stop the Corpse King from approaching, but the results were far from obvious.
The giant lizard beneath him roared thunderously and opened its gaping maw. Carrying a foul stench, it bit down hard on the Corpse King.
The knight on its back happily encouraged the giant lizard, but before he could rejoice for long,
the Corpse King, caught around the waist in its jaws, began his counterattack. His claws easily gripped the space between the giant lizard's snout and mouth.
They tore open wounds across its snout, then drove deeper. With both hands, he forcefully ripped apart the giant lizard's lower jaw.
Amid the giant lizard's agonized shrieks, its lower jaw was torn directly into two halves.
The giant lizard rolled about everywhere from the excruciating pain, even throwing the war lizardman knight from its back.
The war lizardman knight had barely landed when he managed only to draw the battle sword at his waist and cut down a snarling zombie before the Corpse King attacked him again.
The war lizardman knight desperately erupted with his remaining battle qi and chopped down with all his strength.
But this attack did not cause the Corpse King any real harm either.
With a nimble sidestep, the Corpse King dodged the knight's attack, then pounced on him and knocked him to the ground.
As its claws flew, the knight's armor was shredded into fragments. Pieces of armor and his natural scales were flung aside.
Then the Corpse King lowered its head and eagerly devoured the fresh war lizardman flesh.
When the other war lizardmen witnessed this scene, even the powerful knights had already been slain. Their morale collapsed outright.
They abandoned all their wounded companions and turned to flee. Their flight shattered the defensive line completely.
Apart from a few war lizardmen who ran relatively fast, all the others fell into the zombies' hands and became their bloody food.
"Why aren't the zombies afraid of sunlight anymore?"
From atop a nearby high-rise, Huo Ling watched the scene below, his heart pounding like a war drum.
One of the reasons he had dared to hunt zombies was that they would not move during the day. Now, these zombies had shattered his fixed impression of them.
As the battle below came to an end, every zombie sprawled over the war lizardmen's corpses and feasted greedily.
From time to time, disputes and fights broke out among the zombies as they fought over flesh and blood.
But as the fighting subsided, the zombies' innate fear of the sun was exposed once more. Some zombies were still gnawing on flesh.
Yet as they ate, they would struggle to their feet and run back into the mall's darkness at even greater speed.
Before long, every zombie on the battlefield had retreated into the mall.
Even a large portion of the war lizardmen's flesh left behind had not been eaten in time.
Seeing this, Huo Ling came to a tentative conclusion.
The zombies still feared sunlight, but if there was a powerful zombie in the horde—a Corpse King—then under the Corpse King's command, these zombies could still break free of their instincts and launch attacks during the day.
But once the battle ended and the Corpse King no longer continued issuing orders, the zombies could no longer resist their natural fear of the sun.
That was why, despite so much flesh still lying on the ground, the zombies had abandoned it and returned to the mall.
With that thought, Huo Ling's tightly suspended heart relaxed a little.
What he had witnessed today had truly frightened him. Hundreds of zombies had launched an attack in broad daylight, and even powerful Black Iron-ranked war lizardman knights had been slaughtered by the Corpse King like chickens.
Then just what level had this Corpse King's strength reached? It had likely already attained the Silver rank.
Moreover, these zombies could not cultivate battle qi. Relying solely on their physical strength, they had achieved such combat power. They truly could not be underestimated.
The scene today had been far too shocking. Huo Ling's legs had gone weak from fright, and he no longer had the slightest desire to continue hunting.
It seemed that if he hunted zombies again in the future, he would have to scout and scout again. If he happened to encounter a Corpse King too, then with Huo Ling's small frame, he absolutely would not be able to escape.
