Over the next two days, Huo Ling did not go out to hunt again. Instead, he meditated every day, not stopping until he had used up all his potential points.
He summoned the panel and checked his current attributes.
Name: Huo Ling Mental Power: 5/5 Mana: 50/50 Skills: Dark Breath Meditation Method Zero-Order Spells: White Bone Fangs, Ashen Mist, Touch of Fatigue, Lesser Defensive Armor, Lesser Eye of Surveillance Potential Points: 0
The results of two days of meditation were quite good. His mana had officially reached 50, and the 100 mana required to break through to Black Iron was now within sight.
Huo Ling set out once more. This time, he planned to hunt walking corpses again and build up his mental power and mana as soon as possible.
The mall from last time was an excellent hunting ground. That huge shopping mall was a fine refuge for walking corpses, and Huo Ling intended to go there again.
Walking along the familiar route, Huo Ling moved much faster than he had last time.
Three days had passed since his previous hunt. He also wanted to know what had become of the corpses left behind after that hunt.
But as he drew closer and closer to the mall, he noticed that something was wrong.
It seemed someone had beaten him to it this time.
Huo Ling climbed to the top of a high-rise building. On its lower floors, a scattered dozen or so walking corpses were hiding from the sunlight.
To avoid exposing himself, Huo Ling did not strike them down. Instead, he quietly climbed higher.
From there, he finally saw what was happening at the mall.
Sure enough, something unexpected had happened.
Outside the mall, he saw new Spirit Realm creatures.
A small group of War Lizardfolk!
War Lizardfolk were also low-level Spirit Realm creatures. They generally lived in jungles or swamplands.
They usually stood between 1.5 and 1.8 meters tall, their bodies covered in scales, like giant lizards standing upright.
Their scales were dense, and the skin beneath them was as tough as old cowhide, giving them considerable defensive power.
A War Lizardfolk's head was simply that of a large lizard. From time to time, they flicked out forked tongues to catch scents in the air, making it easier for them to track prey and enemies.
War Lizardfolk had thick, powerful lower limbs that gave them the strength to stand upright. Their upper limbs were also quite strong, and they could wield weapons.
They generally made weapons from whatever was available, using wooden clubs or the bones of prey. If they captured an enemy's weapon in battle, they were more than happy to use it as well.
The War Lizardfolk language was Lizardfolk tongue, though some of them also mastered rudimentary Draconic.
They were an intelligent race as well, though not a particularly clever one. Their lizard heads limited their intelligence.
Ordinary adult War Lizardfolk could reach apprentice level through their hard scales and powerful physical strength alone.
Some smarter War Lizardfolk also took on warrior-type professions. By cultivating battle qi through breathing techniques, they could break through their biological limits and become Black Iron or Silver-ranked warriors.
War Lizardfolk with even greater intelligence could become spellcasters. In most cases, War Lizardfolk spellcasters were sorcerers.
Relying on their bloodlines to become bloodline sorcerers, they mastered certain low-tier spell-like abilities, such as Acid Spray, Stench, Rotting Carrion Flies, and so on.
All in all, the War Lizardfolk possessed fairly decent combat strength. At the very least, if Huo Ling faced a group like this, he definitely would not be able to defeat them.
There was even a chance he would not be able to escape, because the War Lizardfolk's exceptional sense of smell allowed them to easily catch the scent trails left by enemies and prey.
Moreover, War Lizardfolk also had knights. Among the group of War Lizardfolk at the mall entrance, Huo Ling spotted War Lizardfolk knights.
Two large War Lizardfolk were currently mounted on even larger lizards.
These were beasts raised by the War Lizardfolk—Swamp Giant Lizards, essentially enlarged Komodo dragons.
These Swamp Giant Lizards could stand around 1.5 meters tall and reach as much as five meters in length.
Saddles and reins were fitted onto their bodies, allowing the War Lizardfolk knights to control them.
At the sight of this, Huo Ling immediately lowered his head even further.
Generally speaking, War Lizardfolk knights possessed the strength of the Black Iron rank. They were not something Huo Ling could afford to provoke right now.
There were more than twenty War Lizardfolk at the entrance. Aside from the two War Lizardfolk knights, the rest appeared to be ordinary War Lizardfolk warriors.
Huo Ling did not spot any spellcasters among them, such as sorcerers.
But what were these War Lizardfolk doing here? Looking at the massive mall before them, could they also have come to hunt walking corpses?
Sure enough, just as he had guessed, these War Lizardfolk had come to hunt walking corpses as well.
After Huo Ling waited for a while, War Lizardfolk would occasionally emerge from the mall, dragging out slain walking corpses.
So every Spirit Realm creature treated walking corpses as stored provisions?
Why were goblins hunting walking corpses, and now War Lizardfolk too?
Watching the busy War Lizardfolk below, thoughts spun endlessly through Huo Ling's mind.
Just then, something suddenly happened downstairs.
From within the dark mall, the War Lizardfolk came fleeing out as though they had encountered something terrifying, each one running for their lives.
As they fled, they shouted in alarm.
This immediately put the twenty-odd War Lizardfolk waiting at the entrance on guard.
"Roar!!!"
A tremendous roar rang out from inside the mall. Then Huo Ling saw a War Lizardfolk blast out of the mall like a cannonball.
"Boom!"
Carrying immense momentum, the War Lizardfolk crashed into the wall opposite with a thunderous impact. The instant of collision turned his body into a puddle of mangled flesh.
Then, a ferocious figure emerged from the darkness at the mall entrance.
It was actually a walking corpse!!!
It let out a huge roar, as though venting its dissatisfaction.
With its roar, the walking corpses that had lain dormant inside the mall also awoke from their slumber.
At that moment, they seemed to have caught the scent of blood nearby, and they began roaring one after another.
Then, led by the powerful walking corpse at the front, these walking corpses that feared sunlight seemed to have lost that weakness entirely.
Was that a Corpse King? Huo Ling thought.
The walking corpses surged out of the mall in a flood, charging into the War Lizardfolk formation like hungry tigers pouncing on prey.
The War Lizardfolk refused to yield. They swung their weapons and slaughtered the walking corpses without pause.
The War Lizardfolk's tough hides and armor could ward off the tearing claws and bites of the walking corpses, leaving them unafraid of ordinary attacks.
