Huo Ling strode forward and kicked Carl.

"Enough. What are you blubbering for? You call yourselves devils?"

Only then did the devils obediently wipe away their sincere tears, tears in which not the slightest falsehood could be seen.

Huo Ling sat upon the throne, one hand resting on its armrest as his sharp fingertips tapped against it. He asked casually, "Tell me how Wace City has been developing lately."

"My lord! Allow me to explain." Augustine spoke slowly.

"First, Wace City. It recently underwent its eighth phase of expansion, and the city is now divided into thirty-four districts."

"When you departed several years ago, there were only eleven districts here. The city has expanded enormously."

"The outer city wall is still being built. Its materials mainly come from the ruins of Lovisa, as well as materials excavated from Mountain City."

"As for the current construction of the outer wall, I have appointed Slater as the overseer. He will be responsible for supervising and carrying out its construction."

Huo Ling nodded slightly at this. Looking at Slater, he said, "Slater, now that I think about it, you were the first mid-rank devil to pledge allegiance to me after I arrived in Purgatory."

"My lord, you still remember... This servant... this servant is truly too moved!" Tears streamed down Slater the Pit Fiend's face as he was overwhelmed with emotion.

Huo Ling, however, felt no ripple in his heart. He could not tell what devils' tears were made of—whether their emotions were genuine or false.

Perhaps when devils cried, they disguised themselves so thoroughly that even they believed they were weeping from genuine emotion.

"Tell me about the outer wall," Huo Ling said.
