Background / History
The sect receives seekers of the Dao and martial artists arriving from other realms along the Fallen Immortal Sea. When survivors from the Glazed Immortal Palace, including Zou Feng, reached the Eastern Lands Immortal Realm, sect disciples led by Chen Zifan offered them entry without forcing anyone to join. Those accepted began as outer sect disciples. 257
The sect already maintained connections to Great Yan’s major forces. Dugu Ao, the Eastern Land backer of the Heavenly Origin Sword Sect, was a respected member of the sect, while the Rakshasa Gate also had a surviving ancestor within its ranks. 257
Its recruitment scale is immense: individual intake batches can add tens or hundreds of thousands of outer disciples, while the sect reportedly recruits hundreds of millions of new outer disciples annually. This vast base is subjected to harsh selection intended to produce exceptional cultivators. 257 417
The sect later committed major forces to the Northern Region against rogue cultivators, the Ninefold Heavenly Court, the Yama Underworld, and the Celestial Pivot Divine Domain. After the Heavenly Listening Tower fell, it prepared a far larger northern expedition; the Heavenly Dao Cauldron itself eventually left the mountain gate to support the campaign. 382 415 465 469
Organization and Recruitment
Entry and Advancement
| Rank | Requirements / Function |
|---|---|
| Outer sect disciple | The normal entry rank for recruits. True Qi Realm cultivation is sufficient to enter, but disciples must reach the Spiritual Qi Realm within ten years or lose their chance to advance into the inner sect. 257 262 |
| Inner sect disciple | Exceptional candidates, such as reincarnated cultivators or those with innate spirit bones, may enter directly. Fewer than one in a hundred outer disciples ultimately reach this level. 261 262 |
| Core disciple | Reached upon establishing a Dao Foundation. Core disciples are treated as the sect’s regular fighting force rather than expendable personnel and may lead small squads during campaigns. 347 |
| True disciple | Elite disciples with substantial authority, resources, and expeditionary roles. True disciples such as Jiang Wanzhao can command Flying Divine Arks and lead punitive operations. 296 373 |
| Personal disciple | An upper-echelon rank tied to the quality of one’s Nascent Soul heavenly tribulation rather than age. At the time of Zou Feng’s crowning, the sect had only eighteen personal disciples. 429 472 |
Immortal-Seeking Gate
The Immortal-Seeking Gate evaluates new recruits and assigns outer sect duties according to aptitude. It can identify specialized potential, such as spirit cooking, artifact refinement, or alchemy, and recognizes extraordinary talents eligible for direct inner sect admission. 262 327
Outer sect disciples receive sect tokens after recognizing them with blood. The tokens grant access to sect resources and later provide communication and positioning functions within the range of sect signal towers. 262 363
Outer Sect System
The outer sect functions as both a recruitment pool and a brutal elimination system. Its disciples perform essential work, serve as expeditionary manpower, and compete for opportunities to advance; the inner sect is replenished from those who survive and distinguish themselves. 257 261
- Outer sect disciples can earn Immortal Affinity points and receive five points monthly. 262
- Assignments include spirit chef, External Affairs Hall worker, spirit plant farmer, alchemy assistant, and other service roles. 262
- External Affairs Hall assignments are especially dangerous because they require frequent travel beyond the sect. 262
- Outer disciples may obtain opportunities and treasures during outer-realm conquests; sect rules protect items they can successfully conceal and bring back. 274
Doctrine and Rules
The Cauldron Heaven Immortal Sect recognizes the primary divide in the Eastern Lands Immortal Realm as one between the orderly and chaotic camps, rather than between righteous and evil cultivation. Its disciples may cultivate Daoist arts of their choosing, including poison and other unconventional paths. 257 270
The sect treats outer-realm beings as heretics and wages wars of conquest to seize resources. Such campaigns are a central part of its continued growth and are also used to replenish losses among its disciples. 257 270 295
Within the sect, disciples are forbidden from casually killing one another. However, voluntary disputes may be settled on the Dao Debate Platform, where participants can agree to fight to victory, defeat, or death without sect punishment. 264
The sect permits smaller factions, independent cultivators, and nonhuman forces to exist within its territory if they submit and remain within its rules. Rebellion is answered with overwhelming force, as shown by the extermination campaign against Wind-Chanting Manor. 351 373
Facilities and Assets
Heavenly Dao Cauldron
The Heavenly Dao Cauldron is the sect’s foremost immortal treasure and a foundational symbol of its power. The sect holds that it cannot fall while the cauldron remains intact. 261
- Hangs above the mountain gate and is vast enough to blot out the sky. 261
- Provides a signal network that allows disciples to request support and enables near-instant teleportation of reinforcements within coverage. 327 472
- Investigates major incidents through the Cauldron Inquiry Hall and can influence disciplinary outcomes. 286
- Can leave the sect to serve as a long-range weapon, transport force, and emergency rescue asset during major campaigns. 465 469
- Its bell chimes recognize major disciples and accompanied Zou Feng’s crowning as a personal disciple. 472
Demon-Suppression Tower
A nine-floor tower used to imprison demons, devils, ghosts, and monsters for cultivation purposes rather than mere punishment. Disciples train there under pressure, temper their focus, or confront inner demons. 311
- The higher floors contain increasingly dangerous prisoners; the ninth floor holds three great demons. 311
- Access to the highest floor requires layers of applications and inspections even for true disciples. 311
- The tower’s third floor is particularly suited to cultivating the Sun-Lens Scripture. 311
Dao Debate Platform
A formation-covered battleground on Mount Tai'an where outer sect disciples resolve voluntary disputes. Its regular use reflects the sect’s reliance on competition to temper and eliminate weaker disciples. 264
Flying Divine Arks
The sect operates flying vessels for recruitment, transport, exploration, and war. Reception vessels patrol the Fallen Immortal Sea, while campaign vessels can be as large as an entire Great Yan city. 257
Heavenly Listening Tower
A major Northern Region defense line built near the Jade Dragon Lake Spirit Vein. It served as a signal tower and defensive stronghold before being destroyed during the northern conflict. 351 363 382
Territory and Resources
The sect controls the Eastern Lands Immortal Realm and guards spiritual veins extending into the Northern Region. These veins produce dense spiritual qi, spirit stones, and rare materials, making them recurring targets for foreign races, demons, remnants of destroyed sects, and rogue cultivators. 349
Ordinary people living under the sect’s protection are allowed to live and multiply, forming a long-term source of future disciples. Families of those who rise from the outer sect into higher ranks can receive dramatically improved status. 351
