Background / History

The sect receives seekers of the Dao and martial artists arriving from other realms along the Fallen Immortal Sea. When survivors from the Glazed Immortal Palace, including Zou Feng, reached the Eastern Lands Immortal Realm, sect disciples led by Chen Zifan offered them entry without forcing anyone to join. Those accepted began as outer sect disciples. 257

The sect already maintained connections to Great Yan’s major forces. Dugu Ao, the Eastern Land backer of the Heavenly Origin Sword Sect, was a respected member of the sect, while the Rakshasa Gate also had a surviving ancestor within its ranks. 257

Its recruitment scale is immense: individual intake batches can add tens or hundreds of thousands of outer disciples, while the sect reportedly recruits hundreds of millions of new outer disciples annually. This vast base is subjected to harsh selection intended to produce exceptional cultivators. 257 417

The sect later committed major forces to the Northern Region against rogue cultivators, the Ninefold Heavenly Court, the Yama Underworld, and the Celestial Pivot Divine Domain. Northern Campaign and Escalation

The destruction of the Heavenly Listening Tower followed the loss of its emergency teleportation array, leaving the garrison unable to summon reinforcements. Its collapse temporarily deprived the sect of control over the surrounding region. Former Tower Master Yu Lingxiao was captured alive, while Jiang Wanzhao feared punishment and damage to her standing despite the disaster’s roots in longstanding corruption and betrayal. 381 382 395

The invading forces plundered spiritual veins and fields, destroyed human cities, and converted civilians into cultivation materials. Cultivators infiltrating the Eastern Lands also dispersed the sect’s forces by forcing them to respond to attacks across a broad area. The Celestial Pivot Divine Domain entered through a route opened by the Ninefold Heavenly Court and Yama Underworld, further complicating the campaign. 394 415 432

Although the sect retained an overall advantage, five true disciples and additional Golden Core elders had already fallen during the fighting. The campaign subsequently remained without substantive progress for three years, as hostile forces relied on traps, difficult terrain, and guerrilla warfare rather than confronting the sect’s main army directly. 420 433 459

Zou Feng later led another expedition aboard the sect-provided Sacred Lotus, with intelligence from Undying concerning Gongyang Wuji. His departure attracted considerable attention and was accompanied by a farewell bell from the Heavenly Dao Cauldron. 435

When Zou Feng began his Nascent Soul breakthrough, Undying urged Yan Canglan to activate the Heavenly Dao Cauldron. He regarded Zou Feng as a possible disciple destined to answer the sect’s impending calamity, invoking the sect’s history of producing such disciples during major crises. Deploying the cauldron brought long-range attacks, teleportation, and emergency rescue capabilities directly to the northern battlefield. 465 469

Destruction of the Yama Underworld

The sect’s assault on the Yama Underworld was organized around exploiting the weaknesses of individual Yama Kings. The Underworld deployed its hidden reserves, including vast quantities of Meng Po Soup and the Fengdu Emperor Statue, in an effort to resist the invasion. 480

The statue’s destruction released Lady Houtu, revealing that it had also served as a seal over a far more dangerous existence. Gu Zhaoyue sealed Houtu with assistance from the Heavenly Dao Cauldron, suffering severe injuries that required years of recuperation. The Yama Underworld was completely destroyed, and the sect celebrated its victory. 482

Conquest of the Celestial Pivot Divine Domain

The death of a personal disciple prompted an emergency summons and a gathering of the sect’s elite disciples. After the Celestial Pivot Divine Domain’s location was discovered, Yan Canglan ordered an expedition to eliminate it, assigning Deputy Sect Master Xu Xiongda to lead rather than allowing him to confront the Jade Lake Queen Mother. 487 488

The Heavenly Dao Cauldron transported the army to the discovered coordinates after slightly more than a day of preparation. Because the Divine Domain’s Constellation Formation and Heaven-Flipping Seal prevented a direct descent on the imperial capital, the army first attacked the cities serving as formation eyes. Three Supreme Elders accompanied the campaign. 490 493

The Formless Emperor’s ambushes inflicted serious losses and injuries. Wang Yu lost his body and preserved his soul inside the Ten-Thousand Souls Banner, becoming a ghost cultivator, while Supreme Elder Liu Changming was severely wounded. 491

The Divine Domain ultimately surrendered, with Gongyang Tianrou and other officials abandoning Gongyang Yunlan and cooperating with Xu Xiongda. Xu imposed additional restrictions on Yunlan and sent her aboard the Fallen God, then entered the imperial city to claim the Heaven-Flipping Seal and royal treasury. An intent bestowed by the Heavenly Dao Cauldron helped summon the seal, but the Formless Emperor used its teleportation ability to escape to the Northern Region. 500

Yan Canglan identified the pursuit of the Heaven-Flipping Seal as part of the sect’s larger plan. In a hidden pocket dimension, a nearly identical man covered in dark-red nails warned him that the sect’s accumulated sins would bring a devastating great tribulation; Yan remained confident that the sect could overcome it. After the Divine Domain’s fall, the Ninefold Heavenly Court remained the last of the three major hostile powers, with the timing of an assault still undecided. 500 501

Outer Realm Demon Invasion

Following the Divine Domain campaign, a newly emerged Outer Realm Demon force became associated with the sect’s worsening crisis. During a return teleportation, an unknown force intercepted the Heavenly Dao Cauldron’s transmission and diverted Zou Feng and Wang Yu to an unfamiliar location. Wang Yu suspected the Ninefold Heavenly Court’s Jade Emperor Bell. 502

The Sacred Lotus was left stranded in the Northern Region after the disruption. Its passengers endured natural disasters and repeated demon attacks, while Jiang Wanzhao searched unsuccessfully for Zou Feng. She reported that the invasion was far more extensive than a resource raid: the demons were rapidly transforming the Eastern Lands’ formerly hospitable environments into vicious habitats suitable for demonic creatures and appeared intent on destroying the sect. 507

A force led by Supreme Elder Lin Mu was subsequently overwhelmed by Outer Realm Demon Dragons. Their Spirit Transformation leader occupied Lin Mu while the other dragons trapped and slaughtered sect disciples. Another personal disciple, Zhao, died, and Ma Qianqin was severely injured while fighting two Late Nascent Soul Demon Dragons. Liu Zhizhou and surviving disciples sought Zou Feng’s aid; he agreed to intervene and immobilized nearby Demon Dragons with his Primordial Demon-Subduing Golden Body. 514

The tribulation continued to worsen as powerful sect cultivators fell. Zou Feng’s prospective advancement to Spirit Transformation was regarded as especially important because a personal disciple’s potential and expected strength exceeded those of cultivators who could only serve as grand elders. Such an advancement would also allow him to establish a hall and gain greater authority within the sect. 526

Doctrine and Rules

The Cauldron Heaven Immortal Sect recognizes the primary divide in the Eastern Lands Immortal Realm as one between the orderly and chaotic camps, rather than between righteous and evil cultivation. Its disciples may cultivate Daoist arts of their choosing, including poison and other unconventional paths. 257 270

The sect treats outer-realm beings as heretics and wages wars of conquest to seize resources. Such campaigns are a central part of its continued growth and are also used to replenish losses among its disciples. 257 270 295

Within the sect, disciples are forbidden from casually killing one another. However, voluntary disputes may be settled on the Dao Debate Platform, where participants can agree to fight to victory, defeat, or death without sect punishment. 264

The sect permits smaller factions, independent cultivators, and nonhuman forces to exist within its territory if they submit and remain within its rules. Rebellion is answered with overwhelming force, as shown by the extermination campaign against Wind-Chanting Manor. 351 373

Its orderly affiliation does not make it a conventionally righteous sect. Outer-realm campaigns can involve massacres, blood sacrifices, and enslavement, while senior cultivators openly cultivate sinister arts. Before the Divine Domain expedition, Xu Xiongda and other disciples discussed capturing members of its imperial family as spoils. 270 488

Sect institutions can be manipulated by internal factions, but the Heavenly Dao Cauldron provides a higher level of adjudication. When corrupt Law Enforcement Hall disciples tried to frame and seize Zou Feng, the absence of a death initially allowed them to avoid automatic cauldron intervention. After the confrontation became lethal, the Cauldron Inquiry Hall investigated and acquitted Zou Feng because the officials had abused their authority and attacked first; the Purple Cloud Society was to be punished. 285 286

The Heavenly Dao Cauldron is the sect’s foremost immortal treasure and a foundational symbol of its power. The sect holds that it cannot fall while the cauldron remains intact. 261

Territory and Resources

The sect controls the Eastern Lands Immortal Realm and guards spiritual veins extending into the Northern Region. These veins produce dense spiritual qi, spirit stones, and rare materials, making them recurring targets for foreign races, demons, remnants of destroyed sects, and rogue cultivators. 349

Ordinary people living under the sect’s protection are allowed to live and multiply, forming a long-term source of future disciples. Families of those who rise from the outer sect into higher ranks can receive dramatically improved status. 351

The Eastern Lands’ spiritual veins are nurtured using resources plundered from myriad worlds. Even ordinary residents living near them can gradually develop into rare talents, making both the land’s material wealth and its population valuable targets for hostile cultivators. 349 351

A portion of the sect’s higher ranks specializes in locating resource-rich outer realms for conquest. Great Yan is not a major target because it offers little the sect values beyond occasional recruits, and its depleted spiritual energy can impede or reverse the cultivation of stronger visitors. 257 295 316

The Northern Region lies farther from the Heavenly Dao Cauldron’s normal signal coverage and contains vast, comparatively barren territory. The sect is the strongest force in the Eastern Lands rather than its only organization. Its standard black Daoist robes and the reputations of its true disciples can deter minor forces and intelligent demons even outside the mountain gate. 316
