Cthulhu World.
Morty lay on his back, staring up at the stars.
But this former paradise for narcolepsy patients had already been thrown into turmoil by the aggressive outsiders...
Warships filled the sky as they launched their assault against their enemies.
Heavy, medium, and light missiles screamed through the air.
Energy, gunpowder, electromagnetism, and other destructive forces exploded across the enemy's bodies in bursts of sparks with a violent kind of beauty.
Watching the battle from the ground, Morty could not help but marvel at how the Galactic Empire truly deserved its reputation as a vast empire ruling countless distant universes.
Their assault was like a storm, like a tsunami.
Wave after wave.
It would not stop until the enemy was dead.
"What are you planning to do next?"
After watching the war between Cthulhu World and the Flymen legion with Morty for a while, Rick finally could not hold it in any longer and asked what Morty planned to do next.
That question
left Morty somewhat lost.
After fleeing here, he had suddenly realized that he seemed to have gained the freedom he had always wanted.
No Rick, no little secrets, no constant fear and anxiety.
He had a Portal Gun with enough charges for hundreds of jumps.
He could travel through different worlds for fun, then eventually decide which planet he wanted to spend the rest of his life on.
Why did he have to save Rick?
When he was in danger, even Beth, Morty's mother in name, could sell him out without hesitation. Did he really need to take such a huge risk to save Rick?
Once Rick finished asking, Morty remained silent, and Rick understood his answer.
He sighed inwardly.
This Pokémon Show
had, by now, reached the point where Mortys chose suicide at the end of every season because they could not accept the fact that the world they had always known was slowly collapsing before their eyes.
But this Morty was clearly very strong.
His will was firm, and he did not let those things control him.
Most importantly, he saw Morty and Rick as two separate individuals rather than as one whole.
A Morty like this...
If he truly intended to do evil, he would inevitably cause endless chaos.
Because the Citadel of Ricks had conducted extensive discussions on this very issue.
Why was every Rick invincible in his own world, yet still needed a Morty by his side?
There were many answers.
It had even given rise to the three major Morty Schools, along with seven or eight smaller schools.
As for Rick, he looked down on those schools. He simply believed that Rick had to have a Morty by his side. Rather than Morty needing Rick, it was Rick who needed Morty.
Because without Morty by his side,
Rick would seek his own death!
Just like that Rick. Once he got hung up on certain things and his emotions collapsed to the brink, he would choose to end his own life.
But none of that had anything to do with Rick anymore.
Now, Cthulhu World was under attack from the Galactic Empire because they were looking for that devil, Dimension C-137.
He definitely could not stay here any longer.
So Rick took out his Portal Gun, opened a portal, and prepared to return to Rick's universe. He planned to stay there for a while before figuring out what to do next.
"Let's go, Kemo!"
With one foot already through the portal, Rick noticed that Kemo had not followed. Instead, he stood beside Morty, wanting to say something but not daring to speak for a long time.
After urging him twice and seeing that he still did not move,
Rick pulled his foot back and questioned Kemo.
"What? You want to say something to the calmest and most mature Morty in history?"
"It's fine. He won't beat you up."
"Just say it."
With Rick encouraging him from the side, Kemo, who had barely spoken to Morty until now, gathered his courage and said, "I know... I know you're lost right now, and you don't know where to go from here. But think about it—does anything in this world truly have meaning?"
"No force can defeat time."
"You and I are the same. One day, we will both die."
"But at least before we die, you can choose whether to enter the grave with a boring life, or with a story that shocks this universe and even all universes."
Morty said, "Did you take some public speaking classes or something?"
After half a year here and after meeting so many mediocre Mortys, this was the first time Morty had encountered someone whose eloquence was on a whole other level. He could not help but look over.
Hmm, octopus face. Better not look.
Seeing that Kemo was about to continue, Morty waved his hand, signaling for him to stop. He had not yet figured out what he should do next.
No matter how much you say, it won't help.
"Then why not come back with us?"
Kemo suggested returning to Rick's world together.
Morty raised his right eyebrow, wondering whether this guy wanted to lure him back and then sell him to Citadel TV.
I'd have to be an idiot to go back to Rick's world.
"Don't worry. With the Citadel's way of doing things, once that world's story is over, they won't bother with anything there at all."
Kemo's words plunged Morty into thought, while also reminding Rick of something he had nearly overlooked...
Something extremely important!
At least half of his memories are stored in that underground base. Should I tell him about that?
As he watched the silent Morty, those words flashed through Rick's mind, and he tried to crush the thought.
Because doing so would definitely make Morty go save Rick.
And once that guy was alive, Rick did not know what would happen next.
But it would certainly tie Rick and that Rick together.
The risk was huge.
One wrong move, and the Citadel Strike Team would come for him and slaughter him along with his entire family!
Unlike Dimension C-137 and most other Ricks,
Rick had never left his family. From the beginning, he had stayed by his wife and daughter's side, until Dimension C-137 appeared.
That bastard lost his wife and daughter, went insane himself, and then wanted to drag all of them into madness with him!
Creating the Central Finite Curve to make sure he was the strongest Rick inside the wall was one thing, but he had also cut off all the "grandmas" from the worlds outside!
That was going too far!
Why the hell should I be forced to lose my wife just because Dimension C-137's family life was ruined?
In infinitely distant universes, as long as that wall did not exist, there would always be someone stronger than Dimension C-137. So he did not dare trouble them and instead came to bully us weaker ones.
Completely enraged, Rick cast aside his fear of the Citadel and turned his gaze toward Morty.
Fuck! A one-of-a-kind Morty! Let him give it a try!
Rick finally made up his mind to let Morty take a gamble. Maybe he could create a different outcome.
Even if he failed, it would not be a loss.
"Morty, do you know about the Memory Extractor?"
