Background / History

Shang Luoluo is the daughter of Shang Jingchuan, initially the Prefectural Governor of Cloudsky Commandery. By age twenty, she had already spent four or five years hosting wine gatherings at the Shang Residence, deliberately bringing together promising young martial artists and influential young people. 125

She invited Zhao Ya after his public victory over Xia Cunyi and found his unruffled response to her unusual among the young men who attended her events. Their acquaintance developed into a close political and personal partnership. 124 125

During the Cloudsky Commandery crisis, she helped Zhao Ya pressure the city’s great clans into providing money and manpower against the beast tide. She also gave him a detailed assessment of Great Yan’s capital factions and warned that Wei Hongbin would move to suppress the commandery’s martial artists. 145 156

When Shang Jingchuan was transferred to Yan Capital, Luoluo left Cloudsky Commandery with him. She secretly hoped Zhao Ya would see her off, and was delighted when Zhao Ya and Zui'er joined the convoy. 196 198

In Yan Capital, she endured Princess Yan Fei’s abuse because she feared retaliation against her father’s official career. Zhao Ya and Zui'er defended her, and Yan Fei was eventually forced to kneel and apologize, giving Luoluo closure over the long-standing humiliation. 207 223

After Zhao Ya departed for the Beyond Lands, Luoluo worked at Jingzhao Prefecture in male attire, becoming one of Shang Jingchuan’s chief advisers during the succession crisis. She later covertly established control over Cong Bo of the Beast-Controlling Sect and used him to gather intelligence without revealing her identity. 264 268 402

She is socially skilled and at ease among varied guests, having cultivated a wide network through her wine gatherings from a young age. Beneath her polished manner, she is frank, pragmatic, and dismissive of empty reputation. 125 145

Though Yan Fei’s insults visibly unsettle her, Luoluo endures them to protect her father’s position. Her eventual confrontation with Yan Fei helps her move beyond that fear. 207 223

Luoluo is also playful and teasing with Zhao Ya and Zui'er. Her affection for Zhao Ya becomes increasingly apparent through her farewell, her kiss after his return to the Shang residence, and the lengthy letter she later sends him. 198 214 401
