Hongjun shook his head with a soft sigh. "Could it be that I truly overestimated you, Fellow Daoist? Could this be your way of defeating your enemy?"
"Even gathering the power of all living beings in heaven and earth cannot solve the problem of Fellow Daoist merging with the Origin of Heaven and Earth," Li Changshou said with a frown. "Fellow Daoist should know that the crux of the matter does not lie in fighting.
"I would rather have them wait quietly for a while, without drawing Fellow Daoist's attention and provoking a desperate retaliation—having you strike to snuff them out..."
"Oh?"
Hongjun smiled. "Are you truly confident you can balance me?"
A flicker passed through Li Changshou's eyes.
The question sounded ordinary, yet it was probing him. If he answered affirmatively, it would prove that his final trump card was the Great Dao of Balance.
A test.
Thus, Li Changshou merely smiled without replying, his gaze fixed on Dao Ancestor Hongjun.
Hongjun had many weaknesses. The easiest one to seize upon was that he had sat above all living beings for far too long, and had come to firmly believe that living beings could not harm him.
And that was indeed so.
Grand Pure Sage could not bring himself to destroy the Primordial Wilderness. He could only serve as a force restraining Hongjun. So long as Hongjun did not commit the extermination of the Human Race, any consequences would still be better than reforging Wind, Fire, Water, and Earth.
It was precisely because Grand Pure Sage existed that Hongjun was restrained from carrying out acts of utter annihilation.
But Hongjun had grown accustomed to
