Background / History

Justina was originally a stubborn, simple-minded, and reckless mortal knight. She died fighting in a war after her enemies nailed her to a frame as a display of contempt. The Holy Light revived her at that symbolic moment and appointed her a demigod, turning her death into an example for the faithful. Her manner of death became more famous than any deed she performed after canonization. 132 144 448

Despite being called the Radiant Knight, Justina did not originally seek godhood. She regarded becoming a demigod as a job imposed on her by circumstance; only afterward did she decide that, if she had to do the job, she should try to improve at it. 448

While disguised as a mortal knight in Thaldarian, Justina sought Jia Xiu's advice on gaining believers. She revealed her identity after attending his lecture on popular writing, then agreed to provide mana for proxy spellcasting in exchange for Jia Xiu promoting the Radiant Knight through novels, Phantoms, plays, and related media. 131 132 133

During a pilgrimage to Yebulama, she asked the Holy Light for guidance on finding a trustworthy partner to investigate a Devil corpse. The Holy Light instead recognized Jia Xiu, granted Justina the Demon-Piercing Eye, and ordered her to protect him. 197

A continent-wide Phantom premiere brought Justina an overwhelming influx of faith. Though this initially left her unable to process prayers properly, the publicity and Jia Xiu's creation of the Thesis Platform ultimately gave her the complete divine authority needed to ascend as a Lesser God. 322 323 328 329

Her faith in the Holy Light initially borders on unquestioning devotion. However, Jia Xiu's attempts to analyze divine arts gradually make her curious about the principles behind divine blessings and the purpose of gods themselves.
