Background / History
Jia Xiu arrived in the Iris Kingdom more than two years before the events of Chapter 1, younger than before and unable to speak the local language. An orphan with no connections, he was taken in by Aunt Susan, who gave him work and storage-room lodging at her tailor shop. He learned the common tongue within months, used Rune Eye to compensate for illiteracy, and became the shop’s accountant and cashier through his arithmetic ability. 1
He supported his early spell research through odd jobs and patent submissions to the Creekwood Town Caster Association. His initial body of work consisted of numerous narrowly specialized Basic Healing Spell variants, including treatments divided by injury type and body part. Margaret identified his practical results and clean reputation as sufficient grounds to award him Creekwood Town’s Excellent Young Spellcaster Award. 1
Margaret subsequently gave Jia Xiu laboratory access, funding, and a recommendation to Saint Dero Spellcaster Academy. Their relationship became formally mentor and student before his enrollment. 4
Princess Emilia later knighted Jia Xiu, citing his ancient noble blood and contributions to Creekwood Town. Emilia’s actual concern was ensuring that the suddenly appearing genius had a legal identity and remained a citizen of the Iris Kingdom rather than joining a foreign power or a rival royal faction. 14
After entering Saint Dero, Jia Xiu rapidly established himself through examinations, research papers, patents, tournament performances, and the Jia Xiu School. Within less than half a year, his research capability had surpassed Margaret’s, shifting their practical dynamic from traditional mentorship toward collaboration. 54 92 133
His later work expands from spell optimization into Devil Race identification, self-healing research, spatial magic, interplanar knowledge, biotechnology, divine power, and Magic-Energy Computers. Jia Xiu eventually operates a laboratory supported by clones and interdisciplinary teams. 253 312 394 421 423
Appearance
Jia Xiu is a black-haired, black-eyed human with smooth, callus-free skin. When he first appeared in Creekwood Town, these features gave him an “aristocratic temperament” despite his lack of identity or connections. 1
- Black hair and black eyes; his hair later becomes notably lustrous and resilient after inheriting Blood Clan traits. 1 296
- Originally appeared younger after transmigrating to the magical world. 1
- Is often mistaken for someone of extraordinary or hidden noble origin because of his appearance, achievements, and associations. 115 206
Personality
Jia Xiu is intensely curious, pragmatic, and research-driven. He treats magic as a system to be analyzed, improved, reverse-engineered, and applied across disciplines. Even when an idea initially fails, he tends to continue testing until he can identify the underlying mechanism. 55 207 296
He is highly disciplined about study and work. After gaining Energetic, he views reduced sleep primarily as additional research time; much later, he regularly spends eighteen hours a day in the laboratory. 5 424
Jia Xiu is also an aggressive rule-reader. He repeatedly looks for hidden conditions and loopholes in examinations, competitions, contracts, and institutional procedures, usually presenting his interpretation with complete seriousness. 35 42 115 138
Although his methods can be manipulative or ruthless, he is not indifferent to others’ welfare. He adapts a Devil Race mental spell for traumatized patients, resists mentally contaminating forbidden material, insists on raw experimental data, and seeks a peaceful resolution with Tatiana despite having faster coercive options. 77 160 350 424
Abilities & Skills
Spell Research and Patent Development
Jia Xiu’s central strength is adapting known spell structures into new, practical applications.
- Developed numerous specialized Basic Healing Spell variants, then used the same research approach for hair growth, Mage Armor, mental treatment, blood magic, and Devil Race countermeasures. 1 6 54 77 155
- Co-authored The Discovery and Observation Methods of Microscopic Bacteria with Mia and Ram. 55
- Developed a stable method of rune-group substitution that can replace parts of bloodline-spell rune structures. 128
- Prioritizes universally applicable research, though some early techniques were rejected because they depended on his unique pact abilities. 125
Book Pact
Jia Xiu selected the Book Pact after leveling up.
- Automatically corrects and supplements rune compositions during spellcasting. 5
- Supports his rapid study of unfamiliar spellbooks and complex spell structures. 5
- Its unique functionality limits the universal reproducibility of some of his research methods. 125
Rune Eye
Rune Eye is Jia Xiu’s most foundational ability.
- Initially allows him to recognize and interpret written characters despite lacking formal literacy in the local language. 1
- Later gains auditory recognition and lip-reading conversion, allowing spoken language and observed speech to be converted into text. 304
- Supports his analysis of magic arrays, runes, spell code, and foreign magical systems. 248 304
Healing and Growth Magic
Healing magic is Jia Xiu’s earliest specialization and remains one of his most flexible toolsets.
- Creates targeted treatments for specific injuries and body parts. 1
- Develops hair-growth methods, including services sold in Creekwood Town with Bubu. 21 22
- Adapts Devil Race mental magic into treatment for trauma and severe mental distress. 77 79
- Uses a growth spell to “heal” a poisoned Hellhound to death by exploiting tournament rules. 115
- His specialized healing spells are sometimes rated poorly because they are less universally applicable than all-purpose healing magic. 274
Detection, Elemental, and Arcane Perception
Jia Xiu steadily improves his ability to observe magic at increasingly fine scales.
- Inherits Elemental Affinity from Bubu, allowing instinctive awareness of surrounding elements and their properties. 26
- Upgrades Detection Spell and applies it to elementary bloodline magic and Devil Race research. 82 90
- Gains Arcane Comprehension, perceiving microscopic mana fluctuations and the frequency barriers involved in spatial magic. 312
- Uses enhanced observation to detect fragmented “code” flashes during Devil Race heart regeneration. 296
Time Stop / Little Black Room
Jia Xiu’s upgraded Time Stop is an experimental environment rather than a conventional combat spell.
- Pauses, fast-forwards, and rewinds active spells for observation. 207
- Reveals a spell’s “code” and “execution” states. 207
- Allows theoretical spell simulation even when Jia Xiu cannot safely or practically cast the spell in reality. 408
- He still struggles to understand the chaotic process that transforms spell code into execution. 207
Spatial Magic
Jia Xiu begins studying spatial magic under Odysseus and Enid.
- Learns that spatial spells depend on the rate of mana guidance rather than merely supplying a fixed quantity of mana. 311
- Uses Arcane Comprehension to perceive microscopic mana changes and successfully activate Ukemak’s prototype spatial spell. 312
- Remains more interested in the underlying reason for spatial magic’s individual differences than in learning practical teleportation alone. 312
Clone Technique
Jia Xiu’s clones transform his research capacity.
- Can create multiple clones with intelligence and spellcasting ability only slightly below his own. 420
- Clones have no fixed duration as long as mana is supplied. 420
- Uses them to delegate laboratory work, debug magical code, and accelerate parallel research. 421
- The technique consumes mana at a frightening rate. 424
Equipment / Items
- Magic Grimoire — Records and analyzes spell structures, including rune-derived coded representations. 248 296
- Book Pact — His selected pact item and core spellcasting aid. 5
- Wand from Emilia — Accepted after Princess Emilia rewarded him for maintaining political neutrality. 23
- Fruit of Inspiration — Gifted by the Brass Dragon Siloshak after Jia Xiu’s rune-substitution thesis impressed him. 128
- Aurelius’s amulet — An amulet Siloshak specifically warns Jia Xiu to keep wearing. 128
- Da Huang — A Mimic used as mobile storage for Jia Xiu’s group during travel. 108
Relationships
- Margaret — Mentor, sponsor, and later research collaborator. She recruits Jia Xiu, provides laboratory access, and continues supporting his work even after he surpasses her research ability. 1 4 133
- Bubu — Contracted auxiliary patron, assistant, and close attendant. Jia Xiu guides Bubu after contracting it and later works to resolve Tatiana’s mark on it. 21 26 314
- Mia — Research partner and member of Jia Xiu’s core team. She co-authors bacteria research with him and contributes exceptional mathematical and biological insight. 55 298
- Ram — Core teammate and collaborator. His observations about Quaternary Insects provide the direction for Jia Xiu’s biotechnology team. 133 423
- Aunt Susan — The tailor who sheltered Jia Xiu after his arrival in Creekwood Town and helped establish his early livelihood. 1
- Princess Emilia — Royal patron who knights Jia Xiu and seeks to secure his loyalty to the Iris Kingdom. 14 23
- Juan — Senior schoolmate and Mage Armor business collaborator. Jia Xiu assists him with product strategy after his early sales efforts fail. 54 163
- Justina — Radiant Knight and divine-power collaborator. Jia Xiu arranges for her divine power to serve as a “server” for spell operation. 133
- Sect Master — Mysterious provider of Jia Xiu’s upgrades, tasks, spells, and research incentives. Their relationship mixes dependence, negotiation, and frequent mutual irritation. 55 304 382
- Tatiana — Primordial Vampire responsible for Bubu’s mark. Jia Xiu pursues her across planes, ultimately seeking both Bubu’s freedom and an explanation for her condition. 89 314 350
Story Role / Major Arcs
Creekwood Town
Jia Xiu begins as an impoverished Level 2 Warlock researching Basic Healing Spell variants in Aunt Susan’s storage room. Margaret’s award and sponsorship give him access to formal research resources, while his conflict with Hannas leads to cult activity, dream-based retaliation, and his eventual rise in Creekwood Town. 1 4 17
He contracts Bubu, guides it through releasing its resentment, and turns Creekwood’s hair-loss crisis into a hair-growth business that earns 2,170 Kroner and 21 Hel on its first day. 21 22
Saint Dero Entrance Examination
Jia Xiu dominates the written examination through mathematics, finishing in under an hour and impressing Professor Piyede enough to receive a recruitment offer. 28 29
During the practical examination in Phantom World, he investigates the simulated world’s rules instead of following the expected adventuring route. By registering as the Sun Lord and claiming dungeon commissions through a loophole, he breaks records for speed and total score. 34 42 44
Academy Research and the Jia Xiu School
At Saint Dero, Jia Xiu, Mia, and Ram become known as the “Three Giants.” Their team defeats their instructor during the final examination in eight minutes, while Jia Xiu’s Mage Armor patent attracts significant demand. 44 54
His influence inspires Florence and other students to become academic followers, forming the Jia Xiu School. Its members can improve their abilities while contributing to the school’s growth. 92 99
Five-School Tournament and Devil Invasion
Jia Xiu’s unconventional tournament methods make him a major target of attention. He defeats a poisoned Hellhound by applying growth magic in a lethal way, passes the round in three minutes and forty-four seconds, and becomes the subject of increasingly absurd rumors about his background. 115 116
During the Devil invasion, he confronts a Pit Fiend despite knowing that such opponents are normally handled by legendary or quasi-legendary combatants. His later Devil Race research focuses on practical, widely usable methods of restraint and elimination. 146 155
Blood Clan and Interplanar Investigation
After learning that Bubu’s rune belongs to the primordial vampire Tatiana, Jia Xiu investigates Csejthe Town, the Court of Dark Erosion, and vampire inscriptions. 89 90
He ultimately reaches Tatiana on another plane, asks her to remove Bubu’s mark, and investigates the biological and historical causes behind her transformation rather than immediately killing her. 350 351
Devil Race Research and Magic-Energy Computers
Jia Xiu investigates Devil Race self-healing as a possible form of time reversal, using enhanced perception to observe code-like flashes inside regenerating Devil Race hearts. 295 296
He later leads research into Devil Race identification, Quaternary Magic, biological consciousness transfer, Quaternary Insects, and Magic-Energy Computers. His laboratory uses clones, magical code debugging, alchemy, druidic expertise, and divine power to pursue computer spellcasting. 253 408 421 424
Notable Quotes
“Sooner or later.” — Jia Xiu, on eventually pursuing Tatiana and the Court of Dark Erosion. 89
“Exchange, exchange—how can it be an exchange if only one party is involved?” 138
Trivia
- Jia Xiu’s earliest thirty research projects were all subdivisions of the Basic Healing Spell, a practice Margaret considered heavily “watered down” but still legitimate. 1
- He regards food as a genuine hobby and spends a substantial portion of his budget on eating for enjoyment rather than survival. 42
- Jia Xiu’s full name is simply “Jia Xiu,” which causes Juan to assume he descends from an ancient family with a hidden heritage. 206
- Despite his reputation for bizarre research, he refuses to read a seductive restricted book after recognizing its mental-contamination risk and immediately alerts the librarian. 160
