Han Bing arrived at the classroom to find a new male teacher present. He was tall and broad-shouldered, with a distinct scar across his face. Seeing that everyone had arrived, the man spoke:
"Since there is a new student joining us, I will introduce myself. My name is Li Gang. Teacher Gao and I will be in charge of the afternoon practical combat classes. Since everyone is here, let's head to the Soul Fighting Arena."
The group followed teachers Gao Lan and Li Gang.
Along the way, Teacher Gao Lan said:
"Han Bing, since this is your first time, you gathered in the classroom, but from now on, you can go directly to the combat classes in the afternoon without meeting here first."
Han Bing nodded.
They passed through the teaching building and arrived at the adjacent Soul Fighting Arena building.
This was a standalone arena, shaped like a massive circular disc similar to a Roman battlefield, containing many smaller soul fighting rings within it.
It was used for the students to practice combat.
As they arrived, they saw that other classes had already gathered. They were separated into two other arenas, conducting their own sessions. The teachers from the two classes exchanged a brief greeting before heading off to instruct their respective students.
Gao Lan led the group to the No. 1 Soul Fighting Arena. She pressed a button on the observation deck, and instantly, the large arena divided into six smaller ones.
Above them hung a large screen. Gao Lan performed a few simple operations to add Han Bing's name to the system and said:
"We will start with one-on-one matches, determined by the system's random draw."
"Han Bing, although your soul power is only level twelve, you have joined an advanced academy, so you will be treated the same as everyone else. If others draw Han Bing, there is no need to hold back. The greatest respect you can show an opponent is to give your all."
"Han Bing, do you have any concerns?"
Han Bing immediately replied, "No!"
"Very good!"
Gao Lan spoke with authority. Originally, the students had been somewhat hesitant, worried that since Han Bing was only a one-ring Soul Master, it would be difficult to go easy on him, especially with the Fifth Elder, Guang Ling Douluo, backing him.
But after hearing Teacher Gao Lan's words, everyone exchanged knowing smiles.
Gao Lan would naturally only say this with the permission of Guang Ling Douluo; otherwise, who would dare offend the Fifth Elder's personal disciple?
Guang Ling Douluo possessed absolute confidence. Ever since he saw Han Bing single-handedly take down four four-hundred-year-old soul beasts in seconds, he knew that his strength was more than enough for the advanced academy.
"Alright, I will explain the rules. It is one-on-one. There are six arenas above. With eleven of you, one person will have a bye, and that person will spar with Teacher Li Gang."
"Ah!"
The students were incredulous. Teacher Li Gang was a six-ring Soul Emperor; wasn't that like an adult bullying a child?
"What are you 'ah-ing' about? Teacher Li Gang knows his limits, so rest assured."
"Each match is limited to ten minutes. If you fall and cannot continue, you lose; being knocked out of the ring also counts as a loss. If neither side has won after ten minutes, the one who sustained the lighter injuries wins!"
"Six arenas will produce six winners, who will then be split into three matches. The three victors will draw lots for the final duels. The person who had the bye will wait for the winners to face them, and the final victor will be ranked first. The losers will fight the previous losers to determine second and third place."
"The top three are exempt from punishment. The remaining losers will each run fifty laps around the track; if you don't finish, you aren't going home!"
"If an auxiliary-type Soul Master faces an attack-type Soul Master, the auxiliary Soul Master only needs to hold out for three minutes to win. If an attack-type Soul Master cannot defeat an auxiliary-type Soul Master within three minutes, then get out—don't stay here. I can't afford to lose that much face."
Gao Lan adjusted her glasses and said quite domineeringly.
"Does everyone understand?"
The rules were naturally intended for the newcomer, Han Bing. He seemed to be the only auxiliary-type Soul Master present, though since he possessed twin martial souls, he couldn't be strictly classified as just an auxiliary.
He took a deep breath. Regardless, it didn't matter to him. This was his first time fighting a Soul Master, and it was the perfect opportunity to test his idea: elementalization.
Teacher Gao Lan began the draw.
She pressed a button on the main console, and the screen above began to scroll.
"Stop!"
Following Teacher Gao Lan's command, the first student was selected: Xie Yue.
He was assigned to the first small arena, and the screen scrolled again to select his opponent.
"Stop!"
His opponent was the dark-skinned, tall, and sturdy student from the morning, Wu Tian. Clearly, having drawn him, he felt a bit disappointed.
They took their places in the first arena.
The draw continued one by one, and soon it was finished:
Xie Yue vs. Wu Tian (Arena 1)
Hu Liena vs. Zhang Yuan (Arena 2)
Yan vs. Liu Mingyue (Arena 3)
Han Bing vs. Sun Haoran (Arena 4)
Lin Yuetian vs. Zhao Feng (Arena 5)
Wang Dan drew the bye and would directly face Teacher Li Gang for a guidance match.
Wang Dan stood there stunned. "My luck is terrible, heavens!"
He then looked at Sun Haoran with deep envy.
Sun Haoran felt quite fortunate, believing he had lucked out by drawing Han Bing, the one-ring Soul Master. Wasn't that a guaranteed win?
Han Bing remained calm. He looked at Sun Haoran's profile, which stated his martial soul was the "Gale Leopard," an agility-attack type Soul Master.
Soul power: level twenty-one. Age: fifteen.
After Han Bing's twin martial soul data was displayed, he felt even more confident. His first martial soul, Candy, was an auxiliary-type food-system martial soul, and it was the one he had cultivated first.
His second martial soul, the Six-Pointed Ice Star, was one he had never heard of before. The screen displayed it as a control-type martial soul.
Han Bing had naturally seen this; his previous displays of freezing others certainly made it look like a control-type.
However, the Six-Pointed Ice Star was more than that. If he were to calculate it, it was extremely comprehensive, capable of power-attack, control, speed, and even supporting ice-type martial souls.
The others also saw Han Bing's twin martial souls.
"Candy? What an interesting martial soul. I quite like eating candy!"
Hu Liena rested her chin on her hand and said softly.
"Six-Pointed Ice Star? What kind of martial soul is that? I've never heard of it!"
The others discussed it as well.
Seeing this, Sun Haoran asked Teacher Gao Lan:
"Teacher Gao, should Han Bing be counted as auxiliary or control? Should I be held to the three-minute limit or the ten-minute one?"
Teacher Gao Lan replied:
"You, a level twenty-one two-ring Great Soul Master, are asking this question when facing a level twelve one-ring Soul Master? Do you have no shame?"
Sun Haoran's expression froze, and he lowered his head, silent.
"Everyone, get into the arena! Sun Haoran, if you don't end the fight within two minutes, you lose!"
Sun Haoran nodded. According to the data, that Six-Pointed Ice Star hadn't even had a soul ring attached yet. In that case, Han Bing was no different from a mere Soul Scholar.
Two minutes? One minute would be enough.
Thinking this, Sun Haoran stepped into the fourth arena with Han Bing.
Seeing everyone in position, Gao Lan gave the order:
"Begin!"
Before you continue
