Background / History

Ya'en led the Eternal Night Church and treated the awakening of its goddess as his overriding objective. He considered the incomplete recovery of the Realm Guardian acceptable so long as the goddess could awaken, and he directed church operations from the Pope's throne within the Eternal Night Secret Realm 343.

He cooperated with Sima Hao to target Lin Yu, whom he regarded as a valuable SSS-rank genius. Later, Ya'en personally abducted Lin Yu's Wood Clone, suppressing Wang Yunfei's ability to call for help with his domain and taking the clone to the Eternal Night Secret Realm 329 353. Impressed by the clone's composure and potential, he offered Lin Yu the position of Holy Son—nominally second only to the Eternal Night Goddess—rather than immediately disposing of him 362.

The abduction was part of Lin Yu's plan to locate the Eternal Night Secret Realm. When Lin Yu entered the realm, Ya'en recognized that the clone had been used to expose their headquarters and called upon the Realm Guardian, Shouyi, as the church faced Dragon Glory's assault 370 371. Ya'en fought Elder Chen in a spatial duel but was gradually overwhelmed despite the advantages granted by the Crescent Moon Pendant 382 401 402.

After the Eternal Night Church's forces were destroyed, Ya'en attempted to escape using the pendant. He was incapacitated after losing the artifact and was cut in half by Huangfu Long's saber aura 405. Faced with death, he accepted Lin Yu's offer of immortality, surrendered intelligence on the gods and the world beyond the Heavenly Chasm, and allowed Lin Yu to extract his soul 407.

Lin Yu subsequently reanimated Ya'en with Impure World Reincarnation. Ya'en accepted Lin Yu's control immediately, addressed him as “Young Master,” and assisted in accessing the Eternal Night Church's treasury 408 410 412. He later aided Lin Yu by sharing his knowledge of the Divine Realm and the sleeping gods, appearing at the Federation Congress on Lin Yu's behalf, and remaining available for further assignments 489 496 616.

Ya'en is generally associated with a black robe and a hoarse voice. After his capture, Lin Yu conceals his identity with a mask and Fire Cloud Robe 353 562.

His former devotion to the Eternal Night Goddess did not outweigh his desire to survive. Once Lin Yu proved the goddess could not protect him, Ya'en chose immortality over loyalty and openly accepted the restraints accompanying his new existence 406 407. As Lin Yu's subordinate, he is notably adaptable: he follows orders without hesitation and focuses on proving his value in expectation of a future true resurrection 410 496 616.
