Background / History

Dong Chengze was a student at Licheng No. 3 High School who, together with several other boys, spread a rumor that Jiang Yubai had confessed to Lin Tingwan after the two were seen in a pavilion behind the school. His resentment toward Jiang is linked to jealousy, and he glances toward Zhao Yun when challenged about the rumor 27.

When Jiang confronted him, Dong defended the rumor and disparaged Lin Tingwan’s hearing impairment, claiming that she could not hear him anyway. Jiang responded by overturning Dong’s desk, prompting their homeroom teacher Zhang Shufang to intervene 27 28.

In Zhang’s office, Dong offered only a weak defense that Jiang had acted first, while Jiang admitted overturning the desk. Because education officials had overheard the incident during a school inspection, Dong was treated as an example of poor school conduct 28 29.
