Background / History

Konoha dispatched the Twelve Guardian Ninja to protect the Fire Country daimyo; Uchiha Yunyan and Asuma Sarutobi were among the twelve. Yunyan used the assignment to distance himself from Konoha and the growing conflict surrounding the Uchiha Clan. 1

By Yunyan's return, the village had recovered from the last war and the Nine-Tails Rebellion. Its streets, shops, and civilian life were orderly and peaceful, while its favorable geography, natural resources, and the Fire Country's foundation helped preserve its position as the strongest of the Five Great Ninja Villages. 8

This stability conceals severe political division. Hiruzen's administration, Root, and the village elders operate through secrecy and compromise, while the Uchiha Clan is increasingly excluded from influence and housed in a remote district of the village. 13 19 43

Geography and Infrastructure

• Village gates and barrier — Returning ninja pass through Konoha's barrier, present identification, and undergo inspection at the main gates. 8

Story Role / Major Arcs

Yunyan's Recall and Root's Assassination Attempts

Hiruzen recalls Yunyan from the Fire Country capital, reasserting that he remains a Konoha shinobi despite his favor with the daimyo. Root learns of the transfer and sends two operatives to assassinate him before he reaches the village. 8

Yunyan returns alive, presents the attackers' bodies to Hiruzen, and forces the Hokage to address Root's actions. The incident exposes the distrust between Yunyan, Danzō, and Hiruzen while demonstrating the limits of the Hokage's control over the village's internal factions. 10 11 12

ANBU Service and Border Conflict

After pressuring Hiruzen for admission, Yunyan joins ANBU alongside Kakashi. Their first mission sends them to the Fire Country–Lightning Country border, where Kumogakure incursions have become increasingly frequent. 55 57

The pair retaliate against invading Kumogakure squads. Yunyan's long-range Mangekyō technique allows him to scan the border and detect intruders across vast distances, causing every Kumogakure shinobi who enters the Fire Country border region during this period to disappear or die. 62 83

Kumogakure Diplomatic Crisis

Kumogakure sends a delegation led by Dodai to Konoha to demand an explanation for the missing border operatives. During the negotiations, delegate Morui secretly attempts to abduct Hyūga Hinata in pursuit of the Byakugan, but is killed during the attempt. 84 96 104

Dodai rejects Konoha's explanation and demands that Hyūga Hiashi be handed over. The delegation spreads news of the incident throughout the village, triggering widespread panic, rumors of war, and a breakdown in public confidence. 103 106 109

Public Trial and Political Upheaval

A public trial is convened before the Hokage Building, drawing civilians, clan heads, and major village families. Yunyan sits beside Hiruzen in a position above the village elders, alarming the clans because of his Uchiha identity and unexplained authority. 152 153 154

The proceedings expose Danzō's crimes, including human experimentation, corruption, attacks on fellow Konoha shinobi, and collaboration with outside forces. Testimony also implicates Hiruzen in long-hidden abuses of power and the circumstances surrounding Minato Namikaze's death. 159 160 161

Konoha's citizens turn against its leadership, demand Hiruzen's resignation, and anticipate Danzō's execution. By the time Uchiha Shisui confronts Yunyan, Hiruzen has been forced to step down. 160 169 173
