Personality

Kakashi is professional and obedient toward the Hokage's orders, even when those orders place him in uncomfortable positions. His sense of duty often conflicts with his personal judgment. Surveillance of Yunyan

Hiruzen assigns Kakashi to secretly follow Yunyan after Yunyan confronts the Hokage with the bodies of Root operatives. Yunyan notices the surveillance, and Kakashi returns unable to determine when he was exposed or assess Yunyan's true strength. 15 19 20

Kakashi continues the assignment by observing near Yunyan's home only briefly each evening. This compromise allows him to fulfill Hiruzen's order while respecting Yunyan's boundaries. 24

Root Incident

Kakashi intervenes when Yunyan moves to kill Root shinobi who targeted Yunyan and Izumi. He argues that fellow Konoha shinobi cannot be killed inside the village, but Yunyan rejects the appeal. 31 32

Using Chidori, Kakashi attempts to physically block Yunyan. Yunyan evades as a wind-like blur, disperses Chidori, and decapitates the Root operative before Kakashi can react. The encounter convinces Kakashi that Yunyan's strength exceeds elite jōnin level. 32 33

ANBU Enrollment and Border Mission

Kakashi delivers the genuine Flying Thunder God Technique scroll promised to Yunyan, then escorts him to ANBU enrollment. Yunyan joins as a squad captain under the codename “Salted Fish.” 41 55 56
