Background / History

Bai Ningbing originated from the White Family, South City's foremost great family. Though born into privilege, he was considered less accomplished than renowned contemporaries such as Ye Guxue. He opened his Sea of Bitterness at sixteen and later cultivated to the Life Spring Realm. 37 41

He first encountered Chen Qiye in Phoenix Cry Town following the conflict at Phoenix Cry Tavern. Impressed by Chen's sword, Bai invited him to the Dragon Transformation Pools and provided access to the White Family's resources and places of residence. 39 40 Before the expedition, Bai persistently asked Chen to accept him as a disciple; Chen eventually accepted him as an unreliable registered disciple. 49

During the journey to the Dragon Transformation Pools, Bai travelled with Chen Qiye, Little Nannan, Su Manman, Lu Junchu, and Ye Guxue. He initially feared the region's dangers, but Chen's confidence reassured him. Over six days, he formed his Divine Bridge. 51 He was later among the cultivators offered as sacrifices in the Ancestral Dragon's resurrection scheme and desperately tried to warn Chen as Chen advanced toward the altar. 60 63

In the years that followed, Bai severed his “true self” against the current, attained the peak Half-Saint Realm, and sealed himself away. He accumulated seventeen hundred years of sword intent, ultimately creating the principle of “All Things Are Swords.” 71 73 74

After reuniting with Chen in the Ever Night Plane, Bai challenged Hao Tian's authority and drove away its golden divine dragon with his sword intent. He later broke through into the Saint Realm, gaining red hair—an omen of misfortune—and revealed that his ancestral bloodline grants him visions of the future during breakthroughs. 73 74 80

More than two hundred thousand years later, Bai attained the Dao and became a Great Emperor. His irreverent conduct earned him the title “Shameless Great Emperor,” but he remained a powerful deterrent against hostile ancient beings and protected humanity during the opening of the Immortal Ascension Road. 224 225 226

Bai Ningbing is a handsome young man most often seen in white robes. Although he has lived for millennia, his appearance remains that of a man in his twenties after his second-life transformation and sealing. 37 75

Bai is flamboyant, shameless, and intensely talkative. He regularly calls Chen Qiye “Old Chen,” pesters him for pills and imperial weapons, and treats danger with jokes even when facing enemies far beyond his apparent level. 50 51 71

His outward frivolity conceals considerable loneliness. Having watched countless years pass and lost many contemporaries, he describes longevity as bitter and admits that his cultivation partly became a way to make enemies. 75 He was deeply affected by his unreciprocated feelings for Su Manman and later developed an immediate, earnest attachment to Ye Hongyu. 71 80 82

Despite his cowardly-sounding complaints and habit of calling for help, Bai is fiercely loyal. He stood by Chen during imperial conflicts, tried to protect Ye Hongyu from Liansheng Thirty-Two, and repeatedly promised that he would die before Chen if the future vision of Chen's death ever came to pass. 82 227 260
