Lu Xingyuan had no intention of giving Lei Lingyun a chance to catch his breath. He struck again.
But the Blood-red Eyes in the sky reacted faster. A scarlet beam shot from their pupils and sank into Lei Lingyun's body.
Lei Lingyun rose to his feet once more.
He no longer screamed. Instead, he burst out laughing.
"Lu Xingyuan, have you ever felt true despair? How do you beat an enemy you can never kill?"
"Give up. I might even make it quick."
After a pause, Lei Lingyun added:
"Or I can offer you another path: join us! Together, we'll walk this glorious, righteous road!"
The Train Conductors who had fully turned into Zombies had already undergone an unseen change of heart.
They raised their hands in excitement and cheered.
"So this is what becoming a Zombie is like? It's far better than I imagined!"
"Maybe I should've abandoned my human identity long ago and embraced my new form!"
"Zombies are invincible! We're humanity's future!"
Lei Lingyun smiled smugly.
"Well? Have you decided whether to join us?"
"Not interested. What's the point of turning into something that's neither human nor monster? If you'd had a choice, I doubt you'd have wanted to become a Zombie either."
Lu Xingyuan gently wiped the blood from Sudden Rain.
Every word struck a nerve, cutting straight to Lei Lingyun's soul!
Yes. Lu Xingyuan was right.
If Lei Lingyun had had a choice, he would never have become a Zombie.
The problem was that he hadn't had one.
He had been driven into a corner.
When death was staring him in the face, how could he care whether he remained human or became a Zombie?
But he had to make his choice sound noble.
He needed to convince others—and himself—that he was doing just fine!
