Recognizing the potential strategic value of this ability, Chen proposes testing it against abyssal creatures at the Blood God Legion, despite Guan Yue's concern that Yun Feng is too young for such danger 5.

Chen has a longstanding rivalry with Yun Ming, whom he has repeatedly competed against without defeating. Yun Ming's earlier battle in Bright Capital humiliated the Federation and War God Hall, leaving Chen with lingering resentment. He regards Yun Feng as a possible answer to the War God Hall's shortage of outstanding younger-generation leaders 6.

He personally escorts Yun Feng to the Blood God Legion, promises to keep her safe, and explains the history of the Abyssal Passage and humanity's long war against the Abyss. Yun Feng's suggestion that the planar connection may have been deliberately caused unsettles him 6.

When no captured abyssal creatures are available, Chen enters the Abyssal Passage alone, captures several creatures, and retreats after encountering the Black Empress. His incursion triggers an abyssal invasion, during which he joins Cao Dezhi in opposing the Black Empress and later shields Yun Feng from her after the Golden Dragon Spear begins devouring abyssal energy 7 8 9.

After Yun Feng proves that both the Golden Dragon Spear and Silver Dragon Spear can consume abyssal energy, Chen publicly names her the next-generation successor to the War God Hall Master position. He frames her power as humanity's hope against the Abyss 10 11.

As Yun Feng grows, Chen continues to act as her principal protector and political sponsor. He permits her visit to the Tang Sect only by personally accompanying her, while also overseeing the Sea God Legion's affairs and entrusting War God Hall members to monitor Yun Feng and Ya Li during his absences 21 41.

More than three years after Yun Feng's disappearance, Chen sees her public blacksmithing appearance through a livestream and rushes from Bright Capital to the Blacksmith Association. He reproaches her for remaining out of contact but is astonished and proud to learn that she has become the youngest Saint Craftsman in continental history. He also meets Mu Ye, recognizes him as the Noumenon Douluo and Noumenon Sect Master, and thanks him for teaching Yun Feng blood-essence cultivation 103 104.

Chen brings Yun Feng back to Bright Capital after assuring her that she may leave again. She gives him a fabricated account of her absence centered on blacksmithing study, concealing her prolonged absorption of Destructive Power on Devil Island. After her family reunion, Chen learns from Guan Yue that Shrek Academy's seven seniors on Devil Island have disappeared, explaining Ya Li's absence. Chen later informs Yun Feng that she has been selected to lead the Federation's exchange delegation to the Star Luo Empire and choose participating students from Shrek Academy and Sun Moon Imperial Soul Master Academy. Afterward, he helps arrange Xue Liushuang's participation in Yun Feng's visit to Shrek Academy 123 132 133.

During the delegation's departure, Chen remains skeptical that exchanges alone can secure peace between the Federation and Star Luo Empire. Personality

Chen is cautious, protective, and deeply invested in Yun Feng's safety. He repeatedly prioritizes containment and supervision: he keeps Yun Feng under observation after her energy resonance with Tang Wulin, opposes her attendance at Sun Moon Imperial Soul Master Academy at first, and later refuses to permit her to train outside Bright Capital 19 48.

His protectiveness does not prevent him from taking calculated risks. He brings Yun Feng to the Blood God Legion to verify her potential against the Abyss, personally enters the Abyssal Passage to obtain test subjects, and agrees to let her visit the Tang Sect only because he intends to accompany and protect her himself 5 7 40 41.

As War God Hall Master, he is politically territorial.
