The clan’s surviving legacy is tied to Naka River Shrine, underground altars, sealed eye fragments, ancestral steles, and Warring States-era sealing formulas. These sites preserve both ocular power and the resentful consciousness of deceased clansmen, making the clan’s history inseparable from its dead and its eyes 9 38 68 171.

Several competing accounts of the clan’s origin exist:

• Traditional reverence centered on figures such as Indra, Madara Uchiha, and Izuna Uchiha. Later bloodline memories can still manifest their images and techniques in descendants 39 203 204.
• Memories parsed through Xuan’s system claim that “Xuan” existed before Indra and was the original source of the Uchiha bloodline; these memories also assert that Indra’s followers altered the clan’s historical records during Xuan’s long slumber 39.
• Xuan later commissioned a separate public history identifying the clan as Kaguya Ōtsutsuki’s former Scarlet Eye Guard. He had this story engraved onto the Origin Stele specifically to draw exiles into accepting him as their progenitor 119.

An ancient ritual connected to the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan involved twin brothers. Rather than a simple eye transplant, the ritual sacrificed one brother’s body and soul so that the other could attempt to fuse with him. It produced an Eternal Mangekyō pattern, but left the surviving brother mentally fractured and incomplete 21 24.

Shrine Secrets and the Return of Xuan

Xuan’s awakening brings him into direct contact with the clan’s sealed history. He infiltrates the ruined Naka River Shrine, uses its power to advance his Sharingan, plants a spy scroll in the Uchiha statue, and later destroys an underground altar after devouring its remnant souls and secrets 9 24.

His recovery of eye fragments reveals a version of history in which he is not an Uchiha descendant, but the source from which the clan’s bloodline originated 39.

Desecrated Eyes and Clan Debt

Xuan discovers the Eye Mound and learns that Uchiha Sharingan were being used as fuel for a false Madara-related project. He destroys the Sharingan Dead and absorbs their ocular power, memories, and resentment, calling it the collection of the clan’s debt 68.

Remnant Rebellion

Uchiha remnants reject Xuan’s authority and conduct rituals at three abandoned shrines to break his suppression of their bloodline. Their movement is driven by the belief that Scarlet Eye is the mark of a usurper and that the true will of the Sharingan must return 109.

Xuan responds by opening the Memory Corridor, projecting a fabricated history across the Five Great Nations, mentally breaking Uchiha Setsuna, and establishing new laws through the Naka River Stone Stele 109.

Rewriting the Clan’s History

Xuan commissions a new founding epic, has it carved onto the Origin Stele, and allows exiled Uchiha to “discover” evidence supporting it. The exiles renounce old symbols such as the Uchiha gunbai crest and petition to serve “Progenitor Xuan” 119.

He subsequently intensifies control through false archaeological reports, staged ancestral whispers, the punishment of families seeking independent genealogical truth, and the confiscation or destruction of clan memorials 121 122 138.

Abolition and Reconstruction

The Uchiha name is progressively stripped of its original meaning:

• “Uchiha” is redefined from a bloodline clan into a Tier-One identity permit 208.
