Background

Chen Xin is a foremost sword-path master of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. Even before revealing his identity, Tianlin senses him as less like a man than “a divine sword capable of cutting through everything in the world.” Chen Xin visits Tianlin's village with Yin Yang after Tianlin awakens a sword-type Martial Soul and Innate Full Soul Power. 4

After Ning Fengzhi proposes that he take Tianlin as a disciple, Chen Xin becomes the boy's swordsmanship teacher. During their journey to the sect, he begins with the seven fundamental sword movements—hooking, hanging, pointing, lifting, thrusting, flicking, and cleaving—rather than immediately teaching advanced techniques. 6 11

He closely guards Tianlin even when the disciple leaves the sect, later revealing that he had never strayed far from him. Chen Xin judges Tianlin not only by cultivation and swordsmanship, but by whether he remains unyielding before powerful people. 28 29

Chen Xin's long-standing drive to surpass Qian Daoliu is tied to his father, Chen Jianjun, who was killed by Qian Daoliu. Although he initially seeks an honorable victory through the sword alone, he ultimately realizes that his path is not heartless: his sword exists to protect his family, friends, and sect. 219 293

Chen Xin appears as a handsome, middle-aged man with a head of white hair. His sword intent is so sharp that Tianlin can identify him from it, and his presence is repeatedly compared to that of an unsheathed divine sword. 4

Personality

Chen Xin is stern, disciplined, and intensely proud of the sword path. He trains Tianlin rigorously, but values foundational mastery and individuality over forcing his disciple into a fixed style. When Tianlin unconsciously transitions into Mount Shu introductory sword forms, Chen Xin approves rather than suppressing the unfamiliar approach. 11

He is fiercely protective of those he considers his own. He shadows Tianlin for safety, shields him from Soul Beasts and hostile Soul Masters, and is willing to stake his life against enemies threatening Seven Treasure Mountain. 28 34 292

Despite his killing intent and overwhelming strength, Chen Xin is not needlessly cruel. He wounds the Soul Beasts surrounding Tianlin without killing them, spares Qian Daoliu after defeating him, and later offers to teach Qian Renxue swordsmanship once their factions are no longer enemies. 34 294 553

Second Soul Ring Hunt

Chen Xin accompanies Tianlin to the Star Dou Great Forest for his second Soul Ring.
