Background
Tang San was originally a Seventh Generation outer disciple of the Tang Sect. After secretly learning the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, he was forced to leap from Ghost Sorrow Cliff and crossed into Douluo Continent. His devotion to the Tang Sect remains central to his identity; when Tianlin falsely tells him that the elders posthumously recognized him as an inner disciple and successor, Tang San vows to spread the sect's name across the continent 103.
He is the son of Tang Hao, the Clear Sky Douluo, and Ah Yin. He inherits Blue Silver Grass from his mother and the Clear Sky Hammer as his second Martial Soul from his father, making him a Twin Martial Soul wielder with Innate Full Soul Power 13 173.
Before the Blue Silver Grass could undergo its planned second awakening into the Blue Silver Emperor, the Blue Silver King sacrifices itself. This leaves Tang San's primary Martial Soul significantly weaker than intended and prevents the awakening from taking place 224 247.
Appearance
Before a second Blue Silver Emperor awakening, Tang San is repeatedly described as ordinary-looking. His appearance remains unchanged later because that awakening never occurs 10 358.
Personality
Tang San is a meticulous and adaptive combatant. He studies opponents, leaves Blue Silver Grass seeds on targets for later use, and uses Tang Sect techniques to redirect force, evade attacks, or create an escape route when direct victory is impossible 91 158 368.
His strongest loyalty is toward Xiao Wu. He refuses Chrysanthemum Douluo's offer to spare his life in exchange for her location, and repeatedly places himself in danger to protect her 358 359. He is equally devoted to Grandmaster, reacting angrily when Tianlin criticizes his teacher and vowing to prove Grandmaster's theories correct 137 138.
Tang San is ambitious about restoring the Tang Sect and increasing his own strength. After witnessing Tianlin's superiority, he resolves to surpass him and obtain more hundred-thousand-year Spirit Rings and Soul Bones 103 354.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Tang San's primary Martial Soul is a control-oriented Blue Silver Grass. It has not awakened into the Blue Silver Emperor, leaving it vulnerable to strong cutting and fire-based attacks 10 157 173.
- Entanglement — Creates vines within a fifty-meter range to bind targets; carries weak paralytic venom from his first Soul Ring 10.
- Blue Silver Strangulation — Produces poisoned spikes from Blue Silver Grass for a more lethal, offensive variation of Entanglement 116.
- Parasite — Leaves seeds on an opponent, allowing Blue Silver Grass to sprout from their body later; used to restrain Yu Feng's wings 158.
- Blue Silver Underworld Kill — An energy shockwave intended to exploit physical-defense specialists' weaknesses 358.
- Limitation — His Grass is cut apart by Tianlin's sword without Soul Power and burned away by flame-based opponents 10 157 361.
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang San's second Martial Soul is the Clear Sky Hammer, recognized as the world's foremost Weapon Spirit. Its revelation confirms his Twin Martial Souls and Clear Sky Sect heritage 173.
- Uses the hammer and Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer techniques to break Feng Xiaotian's consecutive-slash assault 173.
- Activates an incomplete Clear Sky True Body through Shrek's Seven-in-One Fusion Skill; its maintenance rapidly drains his spiritual power 198 199.
- Begins adding Spirit Rings to the hammer after advancing his Blue Silver Grass cultivation; its second ring is over ten thousand years old 367.
- Trains under Tang Hao with iron and wooden hammers to refine force control and strengthen his body 220 224.
Tang Sect Secret Techniques
Tang San retains and develops the Tang Sect's martial arts and hidden-weapon methods after transmigration.
- Mysterious Heaven Skill — His core cultivation method; Tianlin later deduces its circulation path after observing Tang San 368.
- Mystic Jade Hand — Reinforces his hands for direct exchanges, including blocking portions of Feng Xiaotian's slashes 91 172.
- Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — Redirects incoming force and throws opponents off balance 91 158.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Evasive footwork used to avoid stronger foes and attempt escapes 91 162 368.
- Purple Demon Eyes — Enhances perception and allows him to resist simpler illusions, though it cannot overcome Shi Nian's Soul Saint-level illusion technique 158 160.
Hidden Weapons
Tang San manufactures and deploys concealed Tang Sect weapons in combat.
- Uses Dragon Beard Needles against Zhao Wuji and later against Osler 91 368.
- Uses the Mother-Son Soul-Chasing Life-Snatching Pellet against Spirit Hall's pursuers, though Xie Yue neutralizes it 360.
- Provides blueprints for basic hidden weapons—including the Godly Zhuge Crossbow, Silent Sleeve Arrow, Sand Shooting Shadow, and Flying Sky God Claw—to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect under a commercial agreement 103 104.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twenty-Four Bridges on a Moonlit Night — Storage Soul Tool; stolen after Shi Nian's attack 162.
- Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone — Grants regenerative and flight abilities; recovered from Tang San's remains after his death 367 369.
- Plant-type poison-attributed skull bone — Accepted from Tianlin as repayment, but taken from his storage tool following Shi Nian's illusion attack 159 162.
- Tang Sect hidden weapons — Includes Dragon Beard Needles, Silent Sleeve Arrows, and the Mother-Son Soul-Chasing Life-Snatching Pellet 91 360.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father and martial mentor. Tang Hao protects him from Spirit Hall, trains his hammer techniques, and seeks to strengthen both of Tang San's Martial Souls 207 224.
- Xiao Wu — His sworn sister and beloved. Tang San refuses to betray her even under threat from Spirit Hall and is willing to die to protect her 103 358 359.
- Grandmaster — Teacher and the person Tang San most fiercely defends. Tang San treats proving Grandmaster's theories as a personal goal 10 138.
- Jun Tianlin — Initially a potential ally and business partner, later his principal rival. Tianlin manipulates Tang San's Tang Sect attachment, interferes with his opportunities, and ultimately orchestrates the circumstances surrounding his final defeat 103 138 368.
- Osler — Final opponent and killer. Osler defeats Tang San while avenging his father, then uses Tianlin's Demon Sword to end his life 368 369.
- Shrek Seven Devils — Teammates at Shrek Academy. Tang San serves as their controller and remains the last conscious member during their match against the Royal Fight Team 91 158.
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Soul Ring and early encounters
Tang San first appears while absorbing his first Soul Ring. His Entanglement skill impresses Grandmaster but is immediately cut apart by Tianlin, establishing the difference between Tang San's Blue Silver Grass and top-tier Weapon Spirits 10.
Tang Sect partnership with Tianlin
Tianlin convinces Tang San that they share a Tang Sect origin, exploiting his longing for the sect to secure hidden-weapon blueprints. Tang San agrees to let the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect provide materials and production for basic weapons in exchange for payment and priority access to future advanced weapons 103 104.
Tianlin later gives him the Purple Vein Thorns for his third Soul Ring, allowing him to become a Soul Elder. Unknown to Tang San, Tianlin also arranges events so Meng Yiran obtains the Man Faced Demon Spider that would otherwise have yielded Tang San's Eight Spider Lances 113 116.
Break with Tianlin and tournament battles
Tang San ends his cooperation with Tianlin after Tianlin publicly challenges Grandmaster's theory and motives. He declares that he will eventually seek justice from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect 138.
During the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament, Tang San unveils the Clear Sky Hammer against Feng Xiaotian. Later, he uses an incomplete Clear Sky True Body against Tianlin but collapses from exhaustion after expending too much Soul Power and spiritual power 173 198 199.
Shi Nian incident
After accepting a skull bone offered by Tianlin, Tang San is trapped by Shi Nian in a traumatic illusion and loses consciousness. Tianlin secretly repairs his damaged soul, erases the worst memories from the illusion, and later plants two dormant soul skills inside him through Predict Future 160 161 162.
Those planted skills—Five Elements Purifying Evil and Feng Shui Circulation—eventually activate to purge the evil aura affecting Tang San's Blue Silver Grass 280.
Star Dou Great Forest and final battle
While searching for Xiao Wu, Tang San is captured and controlled by Ghost Douluo. Tianlin secretly frees him, enabling Tang San and Xiao Wu to flee toward the Lake of Life 358 359.
After discovering Tianlin's role in manipulating the events around Xiao Wu, Tang San attacks him in rage. Osler intercepts the battle, overwhelms Tang San with superior speed and Soul Bones, and prevents his escape 368.
Death and Legacy
Tang San is defeated by Osler, who uses Tianlin's Demon Sword to kill him. Tianlin cremates Tang San's body afterward, while Ah Yin's Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone remains behind 368 369.
His death transfers the status of Child of Destiny to Tianlin, strengthening Tianlin's allies and accelerating Tianlin's future growth 369. Tang San's hidden-weapon blueprints survive him through Titan, while Tianlin later orders the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record to be taught to qualified inner disciples of his own sect 371 480.
