He chose a Necropolis City general—the legendary Brother Qiang, the ultimate leader.

One of the four great generals in the world of Heroes of Might and Magic III, Mr. Si Keqiang, became his first hero and part-time personal bodyguard.

Although the title "great general" carried a somewhat derogatory connotation, Si Keqiang's skills were undeniably quite good.

More importantly, the other hero, Rod, seemed even more useless and had nothing to do with the undead. Mysticism was also a trash skill. At the very least, Brother Qiang was a hero of his own faction.

As 2,500 gold was deducted, Rod gained his first hero: an undead hero with a zombie-like face, splendid knight's armor, and a knight's lance in hand.

Death Knight Skeletor.

Skeletor had initially chosen the dark path of sorcery, but he soon discovered that his fighting skills far surpassed his magical abilities, so he became a Death Knight.

He served in Deyja's undead legions, dreaming that one day he could join the ranks of true necromancers.

Stats: Attack: 1 Defense: 2 Power: 2 Knowledge: 1 Starting Skills: (Necromancy): Converts a certain percentage of enemy soldiers slain in battle into Skeletons or Skeleton Warriors. (If the army is full and contains only Skeleton Warriors but no Skeletons, Skeleton Warriors will be raised.) (Resistance): Also called Anti-Magic. Has a chance to be unaffected by enemy spells. Starting Spell: Haste Hero Specialty: After reaching level 2, increases the Attack and Defense of Walking Dead and Zombies, and gives Walking Dead and Zombies +1 starting Speed.

Rod nodded in satisfaction. It did not matter that zombies were slow; Brother Qiang could increase their speed by 1, and he even came with Haste.

Moreover, every level-up would increase Brother Qiang's Attack and Defense. Combined with his 25 HP after leveling up, he was a true meat shield for defending cities. If he blocked the city gate, no one would be getting in.

Besides, Brother Qiang's four primary attributes were excellent. Though he was a Death Knight, he did not need to buy a spellbook like knight-type heroes of other factions.

Brother Qiang came with his own spellbook, directly saving 500 gold!

For Rod, who was utterly broke, that was incredibly valuable.

After hiring his first hero, Rod could not wait to summon his bodyguard inside the small room.

There was no earth-shaking light, no deafening entrance effect. A gust of foul wind carrying the scent of decay blew his thin clothes tight against his body, making him shudder involuntarily.

Space rippled like water, and a tall, burly figure materialized from nothing, silently standing there.

Death Knight Skeletor had arrived!

He stood over two meters tall, his large, lifeless undead body covered in black, heavy knight's armor—scarred all over, yet still magnificent.

At the joints of his armor, dried grayish-white skin and desiccated muscles could faintly be seen. A helmet with a savage visor concealed most of his face, leaving only his jaw exposed—there were no lips, only bare bluish-black jawbones and several sturdy teeth clenched tightly together, radiating ferocity.

He gripped an astonishingly long black knight's lance, its tip gleaming with a cold, sinister light.

"Greetings, great Lord of the Undead. Death Knight Skeletor stands ready to serve you!" The newly appeared Death Knight immediately dropped to one knee before Rod and pledged his loyalty.

"Rise, Skeletor! Do you remember the past? Do you remember how you came here?" Rod asked with a nod.

To be honest, Brother Qiang's entrance was pretty impressive. At least he did not look like some rookie.

"Great Lord of the Undead, I have no past. I was born when you summoned me, and only then did I gain self-awareness. You are everything to me. Beyond that, I desire nothing," Skeletor said.

Rod nodded upon hearing this. It seemed that his Heroes of Might and Magic III system had not summoned heroes from Enroth; instead, whenever he chose to hire a hero, it directly created one from nothing.

There were also twelve Skeletons available for recruitment in the Evil Temple he started with, and Rod recruited them all.

After spending several hundred gold, he increased his Skeleton forces to thirty-seven. Rod planned to lead the Skeleton troops and four Wraiths himself.

As for the zombie troops, Rod handed them directly to Skeletor, bringing Skeletor's zombie force to twenty-four.

He also had a starting artifact called the Orb of the Firmament, which increased the success rate of Eagle Eye by 10%.

Rod did not give it to Skeletor and instead equipped it himself.

"Skeletor! There's a group of monsters outside, also undead creatures. Can you wipe them all out and protect my safety?" Rod asked.

Let me see what a Necropolis faction hero is capable of!

Skeletor glanced outside after hearing this, then revealed a trace of disdain. A few low-level undead creatures that had not even developed self-awareness—how could they possibly compare to a Death Knight like him?

"Great Master, allow me to teach these ignorant fools a lesson. I will not even need to bring a single soldier with me." Without another word, Skeletor grabbed his black iron lance, shoved open the door of the ruined house, and walked out.

He headed straight toward several Walking Dead and Skeletons wielding cleavers. When they saw Skeletor's massive frame emerge, the surrounding undead creatures were visibly stunned.

"Trash! You have disturbed my great master's peace. Die!" Skeletor roared and charged at the group of low-level undead before him.

"Hmph! Scum!" Skeletor casually swung the heavy black knight's lance forward.

Splat!

The lance tip pierced straight through the Walking Dead's long-rotted chest without the slightest resistance. The tremendous force sent its shriveled body flying backward like a rag sack, slamming it into a Skeleton behind it and making its bones clatter.

The lance did not slow, accurately stabbing through the Skeleton's eye socket and piercing its skull!

With a flick of his wrist, Skeletor swung the lance—with the two low-level undead still skewered on it—violently to the side as if tossing away garbage!

The lance whirled into a black cyclone of death! Crack! Clatter!

The remains of the Walking Dead and Skeleton were smashed hard against the earthen wall of the ruined house, instantly breaking apart. Rotten flesh splattered everywhere, and shattered bones scattered across the ground.

Instant kill! In only a few seconds, Death Knight Skeletor had thoroughly cleaned up the undead rabble outside.

A glorious victory. Skeletor gained 15 experience points.
