Background
Rod was an ordinary modern office worker playing Heroes of Might and Magic III when he was transported into a ruined, undead-infested settlement. He received a Hero interface tied to the Necropolis faction, including troops, a spellbook, and a city-management system. His original force consisted of 25 Skeletons, 10 Zombies, and 4 Wraiths. 2
After confirming that his Necropolis city and summoned troops were real, Rod prioritized economic growth, recruitment, and spell acquisition. He hired Death Knight Skeletor as his first hero and personal bodyguard, then used Necromancy to turn battlefield casualties into an expanding Skeleton army. 3 4 5
Rod recognized Lordaeron's crest among the ruined settlement's dead and realized that he had arrived in Azeroth during the Undead Plague. He then encountered Arthas Menethil and Jaina Proudmoore, using Magic Arrow to kill an abomination and triggering Eagle Eye to learn Flash of Light and Frostbolt. 5 6
Personality
Rod is pragmatic, strategic, and strongly focused on long-term growth. He evaluates battles in terms of experience, spell acquisition, troop conversion, resources, and possible system rewards; he joined Arthas's campaign in part to observe and copy Azerothian magic. 6 7 11
He avoids risks that do not benefit him. Rod refused to participate in Arthas's purge of Stratholme because he believed an unaffiliated mage would become the massacre's scapegoat, and he later declined Arthas's invitation to Northrend. 25 26 28
Rod is also willing to manipulate others to secure allies and legitimacy. He fabricated a story about being chosen by a Titan Keeper, using his knowledge of Titan history and his unusual artifacts to earn Uther, Jaina, and Tyr's Guard's trust. 35 36 39
Abilities & Skills
Hero System and Necropolis Command
Rod can summon, dismiss, organize, and command troops through his Hero interface. His army can be stored in system space while travelling, allowing him to conceal undead forces from Azeroth's factions. 2 7 16
- Current listed attributes: Attack 1, Defense 0, Power 4, Knowledge 7, and Level 7. 1
- Current listed army: More than 500 Skeletons, 24 Zombies, and 4 Ghosts. 1
- Necromancy: His Advanced Necromancy converts 20% of creatures killed in battle into Skeletons, combining its base rate with the Necromancy Tower bonus. 1
- Army enhancement: Rod's Hero attributes and large-scale spells can strengthen allied troops, even when they are not part of the Necropolis faction. 13 19
- Limit: Rod's personal melee ability is extremely poor; Uther compares his wooden-sword skill to that of children learning to fight. 38
Eagle Eye and Spellbook Copying
Rod's Eagle Eye specialty allows him to acquire spells cast by opponents, while his spellbook can copy spells directly when another caster teaches him their method. 6 11
- Advanced Eagle Eye: Has a listed 75% chance to learn enemy Level 1–3 spells after battle; the Orb of the Firmament contributes an additional 10% success rate. 1
- Combat learning: Eagle Eye copied Flash of Light and Frostbolt after the abomination battle, then later acquired Ice Lance, Arcane Shield, shadow magic, and Shadow Lash. 6 16 42 47
- Direct copying: Jaina's instruction allowed Rod to record and cast Arcane Intellect immediately, revealing that his spellbook can copy taught spells beyond normal Hero magic. 11
- Limit: His copied shadow spells are politically dangerous to use openly within the Alliance. 42
Hero Magic and Earth Magic
Rod's original spell, Magic Arrow, is a powerful instant-cast projectile that can destroy abominations, gargoyles, and enemy spell defenses. 6 13 14
- Offensive spells: Magic Arrow, Frostbolt, Ice Lance, Blizzard, Shadow Bolt, Psychic Scream, and Shadow Lash. 1 42 47
- Protective spells: Shield of Protection, Stone Skin, Fire Ward, Arcane Shield, and Divine Shield. 1 10 16
- Advanced Earth Magic: Reduces Earth Magic costs by one mana and improves their effects. 1
- Legion-scale support: Shield of Protection and Stone Skin can cover large allied formations, allowing Lordaeron soldiers to withstand undead attacks that would otherwise overwhelm them. 13 19
Holy Light Magic
Rod can wield Holy Light alongside arcane and necromantic powers, an ability that surprises Jaina and earns Uther's respect. 8 23
- Healing and restoration: Flash of Light, Holy Light, Holy Shock, Cleanse, Light of the Protector, and Redemption. Redemption can save severely injured people but cannot truly revive the dead. 1 12
- Blessings and protection: Blessing of Wisdom, Blessing of Kings, Blessing of Might, Blessing of Protection, Blessing of Freedom, Blessing of Sacrifice, Divine Shield, and Avenging Wrath. 1 30
- Combat and control: Divine Storm, Consecration, Judgment, Avenger's Shield, Hammer of the Righteous, Hammer of Justice, Rebuke, and Light's Hammer. 1 30 40
- Utility: Sense Undead and Meditation, the latter restoring Rod's mana when used alongside his other recovery methods. 1 37
- Physical reinforcement: Repeated use of Holy Light strengthens Rod's body, allowing him to survive feats beyond an ordinary human's physical limits. 47
Elemental Summoning
Rod possesses the Level 5 scroll spell Summon Fire Elemental, which summons Fire Elementals for 24 hours without requiring Wisdom. 1 42
- Fire Elementals: The scroll summons a number of Fire Elementals equal to Rod's Power × 2; at Power 4, he can summon eight. 1 47
- Holy Light Spirits: Infusing the summoning with Holy Light creates stronger Holy Light elemental beings instead of ordinary Fire Elementals. 1 44
- Frost summons: Rod has also copied Summon Water Elemental from Jaina. 1 38
- Limit: Summoned Fire Elementals dissipate after 24 hours and cannot be retained permanently. 1 42
Equipment and Assets
- Orb of the Firmament — Increases Eagle Eye's success rate by 10%; Rod keeps it equipped personally rather than giving it to Skeletor. 4
- Medical Tent — A crude-looking artifact that can heal severe wounds and regenerate severed limbs. It can be used once every three hours without additional cost. 33 34
- Summon Fire Elemental magic scroll — A Level 5 spell scroll that can be used by an equipped holder regardless of Wisdom. 1 42
- Ashkandi / Emperor's sword — An emperor's weapon recovered from Tyr's Tomb and later prepared for purification with Zakaz's Shadow Crystal. 1 49
- Shadow Crystal — A crystal formed from Zakaz's residual shadow power; Rod proposes purifying it with Holy Light and Holy Light Elementals. 49 50
- Necropolis city — Rod's secure base, equipped with a Capitol, troop dwellings, resource-generating buildings, a Mage Guild, and Necromancy-supporting structures. 1 2 31
- Star Axis — An outdoor structure that granted Rod one Power point; each hero may benefit from it once. 22
- Refugee Camp — A weekly random troop structure. Its first recruitment supplied Rod with three Gold Golems. 47 48
- Gold Golems (3) — Five-meter-tall construct bodyguards with Attack 11, Defense 12, Damage 8–10, Health 50, Speed 5, and 85% magic-damage immunity. 48
Relationships
- Skeletor — Rod's first hired hero, a Death Knight who serves as his bodyguard, undead commander, and trusted battlefield partner. Skeletor was created by Rod's system and considers Rod his entire purpose. 4 20 21

- Arthas Menethil — Initially Rod's employer and ally against the Undead Plague. Their cooperation ends when Rod refuses to join the Stratholme Massacre or Northrend expedition. 7 8 26 28

- Medivh — A prophet who foresees Rod accomplishing great deeds and urges him to travel to Kalimdor. 29
- Tyr's Guard — Guardians of Tyr's Tomb who accept Rod's claimed Titan Keeper connection and join his party against Zakaz. 39
Story Role / Major Arcs
Andorhal and Kel'Thuzad
Rod joins Arthas and Jaina's investigation into the Cult of the Damned for 1,000 gold. He protects the Lordaeron force with mass defensive Hero magic, destroys multiple abominations, counters Kel'Thuzad's magic, and advises Arthas to destroy the necromancer's remains. 8 13 14 15
Defense of Hearthglen
Rod supports Hearthglen during sustained Scourge attacks, using repeated Magic Arrow strikes to eliminate abominations and applying army-wide defensive spells to the city's defenders. When Lich Kalis attacks, Rod lures him away, summons Skeletor for an ambush, and destroys Kalis's phylactery to secure the kill. 18 19 20 21
Stratholme and Arthas's Departure
Rod follows Arthas toward Stratholme but refuses to assist with the purge, leaving with Jaina and Uther instead. He helps Jaina rescue civilians outside the city, though many infected survivors later become undead and their families blame Rod for purifying them. 26 28
Tyr's Tomb Expedition
Using a fabricated Titan Keeper mission, Rod leads Uther, Jaina, selected Silver Hand paladins, and Tyr's Guard into Tyr's Tomb. The group recovers the Silver Hand Warhammer for Uther, summons Fire and Holy Light Elementals, and defeats the Faceless One general Zakaz. Rod personally claims the final blow with Uther's warhammer, gaining enough experience to advance two levels. 36 41 44 46 47
